I've covered about 8500 km in 6 months in my Indigo LX and here are a few tips for improved performance from your LX:

Note that I am a very detail oriented driver!

1) Warm up the engine at idle speed for at least 1 minute in the morning. This improves pickup and mileage drastically. It is also strongly recommended by the owner's manual.

2) Use premium diesel. I recommend IOC's Xtra Mile diesel over any other brand.

3)In slow moving traffic, keep engine rpm within 2000 to shift gears. Constantly exceeding this in bumper to bumper city traffic engages the turbo, consumes more fuel and heats the engine more than necessary. This will improve your mileage.

4) Don't race the engine in 1st or 2nd gear. Keep the rpm within 2500 for these two gears.

5) Refill the fuel tank to full as soon as it reaches half. This reduces the splashing noise from the tank and keeps the car solid and steady by giving weight to the rear wheels.

6) The headlight bulbs should be upgraded as soon as possible since the 55/60watt halogens are not bright enough for a car of this size. Use a higher wattage which is approved for city use.

7) Do not use the A/C when climbing hills or on other steep inclines. In most cases the LX doesn't have enough power and is likely to stall.

8) Get all rattling noises from loose window glasses, gear lever, seats etc corrected by the service center immediately. This reduces the overall noise in the cabin.

After following all this I get 15-16 kmpl in the city and up to 22kmpl on the highway with intermittent A/C and speed within 100 km/h with 2-4 persons and light luggage.

Before buying this car a lot of research was done especially based on reviews from other owners. There are just two things to keep in mind to ensure satisfaction with this or any other car:

Be realistic and be technical.

Know what to expect and what you're getting based on facts, figures and emotionless feedback. Do your homework and trust only your own eyes.

Thanks.
