LATEST UPDATE( as on 14/7/11)

Finally I sold of the Indigo at Rs. 1.5 lakh, after covering 1.15 lakh kms. Bye bye diesel vehicle, I will settle for Petrol Verna Fluidic.

LATEST UPDATE( AS ON 22/08/09)

Dear Friends,

Till date I have covered 85, 000 kms in 2 yrs & 3 months and have already spent more than Rs.85000 on repair & servicing.

My only advise to future customers - THINK SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE BUYING A TATA AUTOMOBILE.

My engine has already been dismantled, Piston-Liner changed alongwith other parts but the problem of'BLACK SMOKE' remained.

LATEST UPDATE( AS ON 11/10/07):

I have already covered 15 000 kms but the problem of BLACK SMOKE is not yet solved. The catalytic converter has been cleaned 6 times diesel additive(IFTEX- SYSTEM D) is being regularly used but the problem remains. The dealer TAYAL MOTORS is unable to solve the problem asking me to contact LUCAS for checking of Injection system. Although this feedback has been given to TATA MOTORS but no response from them.

FRIENDS DON'T EVER BUY A TATA MOTORS PRODUCT THE PRODUCT QUALITY & SERVICE IS PATHETIC.

Hi

This is Snehasish Ghoshal.I am an automobile engine designer by profession. I was using Maruti Esteem LXi before. While deciding on a new vehicle I opted for diesel for the following reasons.

  1. Since the daily running is around 100 kms I want fuel efficient vehicle.

  2. Considering GHG emission I wanted diesel engine.

  3. I want rugged vehicle.

Out of the possible diesel sedans( VERNA & Indigo) I opted for INDIGO as this was affordable.

I took the delivery of the vehicle from Tayal Motors(Faridabad) on 16/05 evening. While driving back to home I found that A/C was not working. I took it back to the dealer on next day. I left the vehicle and went to office(TAYAL was kind enough to provide me a replacement vehicle). In the evening I was told that there was no refrigerant in the car!

Till date I have driven around 500 kms and the observations are

  1. In first 500 kms the fuel average is around 15 kmpl( it is too early to check) with 2 person's load and mostly on highways( max speed 80 kph).

  2. The leg room in the passenger's cabin is sufficient.

  3. Within 300 kms the gear shifter cover came out from its housing( TELCO - QA please make a note).

Scope for Improvement: TATA Motors should explore the possibility of providing

  1. Factory fitted central locking or Immobilser(Maruti has already started)

  2. Proximity sensors fitted on the rear mud guard(considering the rear height)

  3. A better Quality Assurance at Final Assembly

  4. The wiring of seat belt sensors are not properly done looks ver shabby.

I have a very high expectation from my INDIGO. I will keep you posted time to time.

Update: Hi again. Till date I have covered around 9200 kms. The feedback is

Good Point: I am getting a fuel consumption 15~16 kmpl(with A/C on always).

BadPoints. Almost on all Sundays I have to pay a visit to the Dealer(Tayal Motors - Faridabad) to rectify various problems

  1. The spring for the blower directional knob got displaced - resulting in air direction fixed in one direction(either towards windscreen or towards leg). The dashboard was dismantled and the spring was re-adjusted but again the same problem happened. I will again visit the dealer.

  2. I generally use BP Hi-speed diesel from the same petrol pump. In one fill the quality was so bad that the engine started belching black smoke. The CAT Converter was cleaned and as par TATA's recommendation I stared using IFTEX additive. Now the problem is solved.

  3. During the first servicing at 5500 kms I changed the engine oil.

I will keep you posted for further developments.
