TATA indigo LX purchased in 2004 caught fire while coming back after servicing from Tata Authorized service center at Kottayam.(You can see the news with photo in Mathrubhoomi(16-May-2009) Kottayam Edition.

We have a TATA Indigo LX purchased from Koyenco Motors, Cochin in 2004. The pre-delivery and post sale experience was horrible. But however we have been spending around 12K+ every year to maintain the car at it best. On 15-May-2009 me and mum were cuming back from TATA's service center at kottayam and the car was running at a speed of 70-75km/hr. Suddenly the engine got switched off (Temperature level and instrument cluster lights were quite normal) and I restarted the car and continued my journey. After some 20 mins again the same thing happened. But this time I could not restart and thick SMOKE started coming from the leftside top corner of Bonnet. I was unable to open the Bonnet and I could judge that the fire is spreading all over under the bonnet. By the great help from the people around we somehow broke open the bonnet and the scene was heartbreaking, my car was literally under fire. I could not even come closer to the car as some parts were exploding and bursting out. .

But it was too late. All the parts under bonnet burned out, including Pump, engine etc.! Finally after the huge rescue efforts we could control the fire without spreading to cabin or to diesel tank. Later I called up the service center guys and they came down to the spot with a recovery van and took the vehicle back to the workshop. Now they have estimated a sum of 1.75lacs to rebuild it!

The reason for the fire break out is still a mystery. Even the workshop guys are not able to find. They are telling it could be short ciruit. **Sombdy plz let me knw if you have any kind of suggestion on anything related to this matter.

*I will upload the photos soon

*Best regards
