I hope I dont get lynched for writing this one because sentiment about Tata Indicom broadband is usually very strong and very negative. I have heard a number of negative stories and I think they are right in their respect in labelling this as bad.My experience has been somewhat different though and I think it is only fair that I share it with everyone.
I have been using Tata Indicom broadband for over 6 months now, I use the prepaid by volume option. I have already paid up for the whole year after I was satisfied with the performance for 4 months.
The speed has been always good and I would be unfair if I were to ever complain on that front. In terms of reliability, there are times when it goes down without notice and it can cause frustration if you have some important stuff to attend to over the internet. But such occasions have been less.
Also, I do not know whether to attribute the outages to them solely or to the pathetic power situation in my city (Pune). I also think the other ISPs have similar outages.
Customer service truly sucks and I think they would save money by just shutting it down. They give irrelevant, out-of-the-book replies to any questions and are always unsatisfactory. But the number of occasions that I have had to reach out to them have not been as many.
Tata Indicom also offers some very good content. They offer cartoon downloads and nursery rhymes for as little as 7/- rupees and they are a hit with my 1.5 year old son. They also have a few movies for download but I have never used that yet.
The other options in my area are BSNL and Sify but I never felt I need to change. I would strongly advise people to go by their own experience instead of relying on others.
