Tata losing its touch

Paid rs. 3140 for the photon to the dealer who came to me after my registration on the tata site. 2150 was for the instrument, rest for a scheme for 2 months of 2gb free usage each.First, the good part. the delivery came on time and the instrument worked straight out of the box, immediately on connecting to the usb port. also on the 3-4 occasions initially that I used it for a webcast while traveling it worked well. this was on the eastern express hway in mumbai. that is it. good part over. now the bad part :(


I didnt get a bill for the photon and on requesting the bill, the dealer and the call center both blame each other.it is highly inconsistent in performance.on the same spot that I am sitting in my apartment, the signal indicator wildly varies from 92 % to 40 % in each session.when I lodged a complaint (first time), a guy came at my residence, checked, spoke to his network team. he told me that tower was having issues and network team would get back.


Network team called after 2 days, said tower is faulty, it is big work ('bada kaam hai') and will take 4-5 months.so I used  the website 'write to md' option.


for those of you, like me, are seriously expecting the md to read the complaint, I dont think he reads. some guy, other than the md responded to my mail, and hilariously his mail was marked 'from the desk of the md'. lagta hai some banda goes and sits on the md's desk and the md is ghumaving, firaving.. :P

no reply for some time.. so wrote a follow up email..


more follow up and a strong email later ... network team calls and says it will take some time.. on asking how much time, they are unwilling to commit.


long story short.. already changed from the 950 plan to a plan lesser than half the value. just checking my usage to see if I need it at all.. otherwise will dump the photon.


Mr. Ratan Tata, please dont plan for a successor so soon otherwise all these companies will go to doldrums.. your effort may go down the drain..


it seems your people dont have the same respect about the TATA name that the consumers have.

Silver Lining in Dark Clouds.


In December 2010, I travelled to Ahamdabad in Gujarat and got amazing speed, better than it has ever given me in its base city of Mumbai.


However some months back, in Sep 2011, I have shut down the subscription.


I am mostly in Mumbai, where I did not get consistently high speeds (I was even once told that there are too many users in my residence area, and later told that there was a problem with the tower from a different Tata technical team) because of which I dumped my plan of moving permanently to Photon and permanently disconnect fixed line internet connection.


The next option I considered was keeping Photon for the rare traveling, but the customer service guys told me that there was no scheme which would allow me to refill only once in 6 months purely for keeping the connection alive, and I would have to refill it every month, taking my yearly expense on this to nearly rs. 2400.
