TATA PHOTON - Cons. Review on Tata Indicom Photon+

At the outset, I have been using Tata Photon + for the past 3 months, and there has been nothing good about this connection. I was previously using BSNL landline, which due to some reason failed, but it was FAR FAR better than Tata Photon. For the last 3 months, I have never had a worser net experience before. I have been using since the days of the stone age (dial up speed of 56 kbps and less). I would only compare this with that. I am mentioning some of my experiences below, which I did try, with a lot of patience of course.

Skype Video Chat - Very difficult. You may see blurred images sometimes, if one of the persons in the conference turns off his video. Otherwise, fit for use only for audio chat, again subject to audio quality. When I asked customer care on this, they gave the most bizarre response ever - "there might be a problem in Skype." - Youtube video streaming - A small video of  1 minute and low quality, size  5MB will take minutes to buffer. So, forget it. - No gmail, yahoo or facebook chat - because, you will never stay connected for more than a minute in chat and you will frequently be shown - "connection signed out". - Gmail / Ymail will take atleast 3-5 minutes to open your inbox in normal mode, unless you open it in slow connection mode (Tata Photon + mode), it may open in 1 minute. -

Online games (angry birds / any games for that matter in net) - If you have the patience to wait for 10 minutes for the game to load and 2 minutes in between new games, you can give it a shot. - Movie downloads - even a small movie of 400MB will take hours to download, no matter how many peers you have on torrent. The best download speed I have had so far is 30-40 KB/s, even that you may get only on some cases. So, better DON'T ever imagine of it. - Facebook / Twitter experience - It takes 2-5 minutes to load your home page and much more to load images from there, if any. - Attachments from mail - It takes me 30 seconds to download a simple pdf attachment of 150 KB from my gmail, so imagine. And all of them have to be run independently, and not concurrently, which may take incremental time, no idea how much. Now comes, the most important part. When I tried the speed test, the best possible was 0.4 Mbps of download and 0.2 Mbps of upload. This also fluctuates to as low as 0.12 Mbps of download and 0.2 Mbps of upload. When, I contacted the customer care on this, I got another set of bizarre responses ever heard, here is it.

The speed assured at Photon end is an upscale of 0.256 Mbps, and up to 3.1 Mbps ( reminded me of Conditions apply) and since you are getting 0.4 Mbps, we have met our commitment and hence we cannot take up a complaint. When I took up this matter with the higher ups, they also gave me the same rhetoric response - "You are getting more than the promised value of 0.25 Mbps. I further asked them, you promised me a speed of 3.1 Mbps, they said that, it is the maximum speed which you can get (I READ IT AS NEVER GET), but the minimum we have said is only 0.25 Mbps, and on, when I will get the said 3.1 Mbps, (I have been using the net throughout the day, even midnight and there has never been a good speed even at that time), there was no response and the same rhetoric of the minimum guaranteed speed of 0.25 Mbps continued. Conclusion - The speed of Tata Photon + will always be only 0.25 Mbps and never the 1 said in advertisements, so never go for it. If you do not want use your net for any of the above, and use it just for the sake of it, you can go for Photon. Otherwise, in this age of high speed internet, NEVER EVER GO FOR TATA PHOTON. I am herewith adding the response, I received from the Appellate authority of Tata Photon(in the chronological order), which has indeed confirmed that the speed is very less, and they will do nothing to correct it. They have provided equivocal responses for my woes. I wrote to the highest authority - The Appellate authoriy, as the customer care personnel are highly arrogant in their response and have provided no solution to any of the problems.

It is indeed regrettable to hear this from you. I wish to get further direct responses from you, on what has been stated - - Please let me know by when this network expansion will be completed and I will be getting the speed promised during the sales. Please provide an exact date, as the customer care representatives are highly ignorant of the fact of this matter, and have been rather providing equivocal responses on this.

• Also, if the service for which I am paying you, is not provided by you, please let me know as to why I should continue with you, and also why a full refund of my amount paid by me not be provided by Tata Photon.

  
  




• Also, please provide a direct response, as to why the sales representative at the time of the sales, not provide any information on this, but instead said - "I will be experiencing the best possible speed IN EXCESS OF ATLEAST 2.0Mbps and above at all times." THE RESPONSE FROM TATA DOCOMO, WHICH PROVES THAT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, BEING DONE TO IMPROVE THE SPEED. PLEASE READ THE MAIL CAREFULLY, AS THEY HAVE MENTIONED "IF THERE IS A NETWORK EXPANSION".
