Photon Plus Mobile Broadband from Tataindicom

I discontinued the service of “Photon Plus Mobile Broadband” from Tataindicom within three months from starting it.


My Photon Plus service was activated on 25/07/09 (Tataindicom No. 09230039341, A/c. No. 934102934) under “HSIA USB 500 Min Plan” with monthly rental of Rs.500/- and as per their bill dated 17/08/09, I paid them Rs.374/- for period upto 14/08/09, where as per their scheme I am supposed to get 1200 minutes of free internet use.


On 13/08/09 as per my request (No. 184806869) to them, my plan was changed to “HSIA USB 250 Min Plan” with effect from 15/08/09 (with monthly rental of Rs.250/- and a charge of Rs.1/- per minute for use of internet).


But I was astonished to receive their bill dated 23/09/09, for period 15/08 to 14/09/09, where they have charged for 699 minutes of internet use, starting from 25/07/09 (i.e., the day of start of my service), although as per their “itemized bill” I used internet only for 34 minutes during the period 15/08 to 14/09.


I first lodged my complain through their website, but other than getting a reference no. and latter a docket no. nothing happened. Then I sent a reminder by email to their ‘Dy. Manager- Customer Care-Kolkata’ and latter another one to their ‘Nodal Officer- Kolkata’ on 06/10/09.


Then I received their bill dated 17/10/09, for period 15/09 to 14/10/09 (which interestingly did not contain “itemized bill”), simply showing deduction of Rs.733.75 from the unpaid balance of my previous erroneous bill dated 23/09/09, but adding Rs.100/- as ‘late payment charge’ and internet use charge for 70 minutes, without any explanatory note or an iota of apology.


I immediately paid the latest bill and on the same day (i.e., 22/10/09) send an email to their ‘Head-Customer Services-Kolkata’ and posted a signed hard-copy of the same, stating that the inclusion of Rs.100/- as ‘late payment charge’ is unjust and questioned that am I supposed to go on paying unjust bills and then take up the matter with company?


I also wrote that I am absolutely certain that during the period under the latest bill, I have hardly used their internet service for seven minutes, instead of 70 minutes, as mentioned in their bill; and requested immediate discontinuation of my service with them.
