Vista- Runway Jet - 190Kmph. Review on Tata Indica Vista Quadrajet

I got my Gala Red Vista Quadrajet a Jan 2009. As all of us know, the main plus points of Vista Quadrajet is enormous roomy cabin, comfortable seats and good refined engine.

I got the Aura model and its no dearth of any features found in a premium hatchback in India. In addition to this the lumbar support and under seat storage are the main points I like more about this car. The suspension is terrific absorbing almost every undulations on the road. I am a young driver and I give much importance to the performance of my car. I upgraded my car tires to

Michelin XM1+ Energy tires - 185/65. These tires offer ultra -low resistance and there by I get around 1 Kmpl as addition to every litre of sticky fuel ( diesel). I added the DVD player removing the Standard MP3 / AM / FM player provided by tata.

I wanted to increase the power and performance of the car as well. I came across the review written by Mr. Arvind who has fitted a performance tuning box to his Swift diesel and gained the power upto 90 bhp.

I contacted him and found the place of purchase (United States of America). One of my friends who visited USA on an official trip got the kit for me from there.

Fitting the kit was very easy as it had a manual explaining in detail about the installation instructions.

Results after fitting the kit:

1. The engine was groaning a touch smoother than original, reduced vibrations at idle and even at light acceleration.

   
   




2. Pulling of the car is very evidently improved, I could take the car from standstill even in 3rd gear.

   
   




3. Usually vista takes off in the range of 1800 rpm, now the stomach lunging forward grunt is felt as low as 1500 rpm istelf and at 2000 rpm Vista certainlty gets to its stride.

   
   




4. Allows me to drive comfortably even at 35 kmph in 5th gear.

   
   

I happened to see the review of the fellow mouthshut member , Mr. Mejoy , who has fitted a dragon tuning performance box to his Swift Dzire. He had mentioned in his review that he had touched 180 kmph in Salem - banglore highway.

Though Vista's top speed was 156 kmph I tried to see if fitting the kit was able to push the car to a higher top speed.

Unbelievably, the engine was smoother till 4500 rpm and in each gear I pulled cleanly upto 5150 rpm. I decided to test the top speed of the car.

Whenever I travelled in highways, I tried to accelerate but could not cross 145 kmph as I was feeling scary due to on coming traffic. One morning I took the car out of the city, to highways in a decision to check out the top whack.

*Without the kit , I tried to red line the car in 4th gear . It reached 140+ kmph with rpm showing around 4700 rpm. I fitted the kit and tried the same , it reached 155 kmph with rpm showing 5200 rpm. Then I tried in 5th gear. Unbelievably , it went to a top speed of 190 Kmph.

Upto 150 kmph the acceleration was mind blowing. Past 150 kmph the rate of acceleration got slower. I tried thrice and got only upto 160kmph. I decided to quit thinking that it could not be possible to do it in roads unlike 'Mumbai - Pune EXPRESS WAY'. But in the 4th attempt I some how got to do this, kept pressing the accelerator for about 40 seconds continuously. It reached 185-- 186-- 187--189--190 Kmph.. Woooaaa ... what an achievement....

Though I am not going to repeat this, my heart felt contempt on seeing such a high speed done by sweetie pie, vista baby...*

This happened in the early morning, around 5.50 AM and I had to travel about 60kms finding traffic free stretches of road. I took my Cannon 10 Mp camera trying to take the snap of the top speed. NOTE: Dont forget to look at the attached pictures showing the top speed, guys!!!

*I risked my life to do this. But to certain extent the car was stable and planted. There was a mild jolt here and there in the silky smooth highways.

*I am happy that Vista is able to do better than Swift , both in terms of speed and stability.
