Indica V2 DLx is the car to buy. Review on Tata Indica V2

Just picked-up a new Silver Indica V2 DLX. It is the top end car in the V2 portfolio.

Let me tell you it is a satisfying experience to own this car.

Here are a few things that I learned on the way to acquiring this car.

The DLX is a sleek and compact beast on the road. Well made, powerful and smooth.

I love the AC's cooling in this harsh summer and the power windows make things easier for you.

There is this central locking and child lock that adds to the convenience.

The fog lamps help people like me who prefer day time travel over night time as always at night the opposite vehicle has brighter lights and you are unable to see your road for potholes! The Fog lamps really help you there.

There is a rear tailgate wiper and the glass has a heating element. I am sure it's useful in the cold when moisture levels are higher and there is mist on your rear window on the inside.

The engine has a hood only in the DLX model, which protects undue dust.

The windshield cleaner has an extra 3.5lt capacity. I find it useful not only to keep my glass clean but also to cool off especially during distant rides in the heat.

The Indica V2 DLX also comes with a heater and a cooler. So if your travel to interiors where it is pretty cold the heaters can keep you warm and comfortable.

The DLX only has right hand side mirror, which helps you see your car with reference to other vehicle closing on you. You can save your car body that way.

The V2 DLX has same color door handles, which add a visual continuity, and it adds up to the charm in this car.

There are a few things that need to be improved.

The car has a pickup problem with its ac on in the 2nd gear especially on a climb. Just shut your ac for a short period and you get your drive back.

The dealer network needs improvement. The availability of DLX is a problem. The dealers usually cheat on timing of delivery and availability of color.

Do not pay full payment. Make a part payment as a booking charge and pay the remaining on receipt of your vehicle.

Incase you are paying by car finance more homework needs to be done, its pretty complicated for us to comprehend what all that EMI and Compounded interests etc end-up. Your interest on a simpler level should be that you are paying less money as a difference between that actual price of the car and the financed price of the car.

The horns need to be more powerful. But I mostly end-up using my headlights to warn people from crossing across. That way I make less noise.

Inspect your vehicle for any visual damages or color scratches. Do a test drive.

The car body is pretty weak as in most cars available currently. Thus the prevention of body damage is more of the cure than the repairs. Put some colorful eye catching graphics on the backside.

Finally, get the advantage of 18 months extended warranty by paying 2700/- more.

The car sales men really do not have detailed idea about the car. They are usually hung up with their own fantasies and needs. Get your opinion from actual users.

Also you can ask for the Car manual form the dealership. That way you will know more about the car technically, that any car salesmen will offer to inform you. One car manual holds information for all variants in a given model. Thus it is easy to make a comparison.

My friend Sameer Kakodkar, from Goa put two conditions before I purchased this car. These were never to drive your car with your windows down, effectively he meant that never drive your car with out the AC running. The advantage that I gather was that the car remains clean. He says if you cannot afford to drive a diesel car without the AC on, better review your decision to buy a car. The second condition he put up was that never use any seat covers, already the seat has a cover. He must know what he is talking about as he has a 2-year-old Skoda Octavia and 7-10 other cars of his own. I tend to agree with him now that I am a car user for the past 1 month.

I strongly recommend that you do your own homework before you go and buy a car. Well in advance go to various car dealers and make them talk about competing cars. The car salesmen seem to have a lot of knowledge about the limitations of the cars they do not sell.

Make a list of features and your needs that are fulfilled by a given car. Ready your finances and go get your self your dream car.
