I was using a maruti 800 till November 2004, till I started liking the looks of Tata Indica V2 - New Look. And at last I bought one in November 2004, the fully loaded version. It came fitted with Nippon make Cassette player. The colour I chose was black. To date it has run more than 11000 Kms. I bought this car in Navi Mumbai, and in June this year, I brought this car to my home town in Kerala. I drove this car along NH17. I had been waiting one year to complete to write my opinion about the car. Fortune Motors, the dealer from whom I bought this car, and subsequently got the first service done, have a real professional approach. BUt I am not able to find such approach from the Tata dealer here in my home town. The car did perform absolutely well. I did not shell out a single rupee on any break down or worn out spares. The performance of power steering, gear shift brake, clutch etc were excellent. When I drove the car from Mumbai to Kerala, I got a mileage as good as 22 Km a litre with out using AC. Now with mixed mode driving of AC + town + highway I get between 16 to 18 Kms a litre. The only thing I have to be careful with this car is while taking a sharp turn from standstill with AC on. The engine becomes powerless. I have to switch off the AC, if I want to take a sharp turn on the rod. And the second gear ratio is also very high compared to first gear. Even if the car is moving very slowly, I am not able to speed up from second gear. This becomes painful while driving in narrow roads in Kerala, where you will have to stop frequently behind buses at bus stops. Keeping aside these two draw backs, this car is really a more car per car. Tata seems to be striving to improve the interior finish, though it has not reached upto the mark. Indica V2 has excellent looks, and good ground clearance. I dont find much to say against this car. I will come back to this column in November 2006. But for any one who want to decide on buying a Tata Indica is, go for it, you will not regret buying it. And go for the top model.
