I wanted to buy an economical hatchback and I considered Alto/Zen/Swift/Santro. Went to different dealers and took test drive of these vehicles. All these being petrol engines were smooth but they were horrible when it came to spce inside the car. getting in out of these cars except swift was a major problem and did require some twisting of my legs and body. Being unhappy with all the above cars I decided to test drive Indica V2 Turbo since didn't have budget for big cars.
This car really impressed me the moment I sat in. Space is in abundance although the boot is slightly smaller but then one can always fit a roof rack for the luggage although this spoils the look of the car.
The dealer got the car for the test drive and I put it in the 1st gear to take off. but then there was a jerk and car stopped. I restarted it and yes felt that clutch was a bit heavy. But once the car moved it was simply great. The only problem is that gear shifting is not smooth. Pick was incredible considering this a diesel car. I finally purchased this car as I was not only satisfied with its performace and decent looks but was really IMPRESSED.
It has been almost 10 months for me with this car and I have raced this against Zen/Esteem/Swift and this car doesn't disappoint me till 65 kmph when I pitted against the above cars. The turbo charged engine is great and kicks in at around 1800 rpm and the noise level is also very low with windows closed & AC switched on. Braking is decent. I have driven 10,000 km and have never faced any problems.
But when I went for my first servicing, the service centre was very poor i.e. the way they talk, the type of work they do . Most of the things I had to tell them to clean as their workmanship is shoddy. I hope Tata Motors takes some concrete steps in improving the Customer Care/Service
I will not talk much about the interiors as it depends on personal taste but I would say they are OK
Bad things : The dash board (where u can keep few things) should have heightened borders bcoz I have seen things falling of then I take turn to the right at good speeds. If they dont fall then also u have that feeling that things will fall off. And if u keep the front Window open on the other side (i.e the passenger side and NOT the driver side) then I am sure ur belongings would fly away out of the window if u take a turn to ur right at an aggressive speed)
I am very much happy with the car. It returns 16.5 kmpl in the city and 20kmpl on the highway with AC on. This may be due to the fact that roads are really good in Delhi as compared to other cities. Without AC I get 18kmpl(city) and 21 kmpl (highway).
