I remember the days when the general opinion used to be that tata made good diesel cars and poor petrol cars. with the launch of the xeta those days are long gone.

tata is trying to enter the premium small car segment by trying to compete with the hundai, suzuki, etc and the ads are doing a good job but the manufacturer fails to build a complete package.

make no mistake when I say complete package coz I include service and workshop guys a part of the package, and that is where tata fails (in fact most of the indian workshops fail here)

i own a glx xeta purchased recently.

the car is built well and has a firm grip on the road. the pickup, aircon, braking, etc is improved and the car is a real pleasure to drive only if the service and workshops would be better. I shall narrate my recent experiences in past 3 months since purchase.

the car was delivered to me and made a weird noise when I attempted a jump start, well what good is a 70bhp if you cant race. on contacting tata motors (roshan motors, jaipur) they said it was front left seat noise and tightened it [later I realised even the seat was squeaking :-)], this however did not solve anything so they again checked the front suspension, etc and managed to clear the noise.

next I told them that the rear doors of the car did not close right and had a gap in them due to which

soundproofing was not perfect, moreover the aircon sounded like it housed a rat inside and best

of all, the gearstick clamp was not set right. they kept the car for a day and returned the car as it was.

in evening on creating a lot of noise and using a few slurrs to the supervisor and the mechanics the same job was done in 2 hours and the clamp was changed at my expense (meagre inr 50.00)

however the aircon job could not be done and needed time.

i like to buy an indica due to my respect for tata and my trust in its values. the car is "made in india"

and I appretiate that but the techies everywhere need to follow international standards

(read my suzuki wagon r review to follow soon)

the point here is that you make an excellent car, build it well, take note from your earliler mistakes

and can improve on them but unless you teach your tech team to learn too and make them let go

the sarkari attitude (the chalta hai attitude), you can never make a fine car a complete package

ANYONE AT TATA MOTORS READING ????
