I had taken a Motor Vehicle Insurance policy from Tata-AIG with policy no. 010033203801.The car had met with a big accident and we submitted the claim with claim no 620096940. It took more than two and a half months for the Claim Analyst to study the claim and respond. Finally, he rejected the claim saying the license of the driver was not proper.
For the common man the license looks valid as it has all the required parameters like the validity period, number, seal and signature from the Government Authority. But it is not the rejection but the behaviour and response of the Claim Analyst and customer suport that was very sad. The Claim Analyst was very rude and unsympathetic. The customer support mail id always gives a standard response "We have forwarded your request to the concerned department" but nothing happens.
Writing to an alternate mail id mentioned in their website didn't give any response. It took a long time to get the written verdict so that I can approach the Insurance Ombudsman with my case. The Insurance Ombudsman informed that the number of cases against TATA AIG is quite large.
Now I am going to cancel all my other policies with TATA AIG and have sworn never to deal with them ever. I will stick to the General Insurance companies in future for mandatory insurances. For others it is better to invest the premium in the Stock market where the chances of getting your money back is infinitely more than getting a claim settled.
