If I haven't bored you with this tidbit about myself before, here's it - I spent two years living alone and away from home. In these two years I saw almost all of the major Hindi movies, Tashan being one of them.

Now basically I hate Yash Chopra. I hate Yash Chopra and Karan Johar both for several reasons. One, characters in their movies are either multimillionaires or uberrich punjabis on their charpoys overseeing  a sarson da khet. As if ninety percent of Indians are punjabis and the rest ten percent are the ones who want to see their lifestyle. Anyway, I digress, and I shall get to the point.

When I saw the rushes of Tashan, which was a pretty hyped movie, I was too knowledgeable about films to think that I'd get something different from the everyday masala we get. For all we know, the riproaring shootout scene would be a dream sequence, or would be the only action sequence in the entire movie - as it that hasn't happened.

So, when I went it for the movie I was pleasantly surprised. The movie was actually a comic-caper movie which tried to be stylish enough to become a cult. Where did it falter? Why was the movie not accepted, even after Kareena's bikini blast? Well, if I'd knew the answer to this question, I'd be making movies meself.

But if you ask me, three things worked against the movie and just one of them was the banner. So when was the last time Yash Chopra made a action movie? Yea, I know the smarks out there would say dawdle and diddle that'Yash Chopra doesn't make movies anylonger. it's that one or that one or that one'. Give me a break. If it's another director or producer get me a new Production Banner. If it's Yashraj Films, it's Yashraj Films, no need to get yourself in a twist for that.

Second, what didn't work for the movie were the action sequences. So that's one thing we know that even the goofish charm of Akshay can't carry off - Gunkata action sequences. He tried that in another movie of his too, Aan. If you do not know what Gunkata is and have criticized Tashan for its seemingly impossible action sequences, I am sorry for you. People have laughed over Akshay jumping on rooftops. What was that we saw in Hidden Dragon and Crouching Tiger, aah, they are the Chinese, they are born with the right to make such stunts, right? Grow up, dunderheads.

The third thing that did not work out for the movie was the audience's acceptance. If the same script of a kickass doll hiding some crores in seven places in India was shown in say Kill Bill 3, yuppie iPod-in-their-umbilical-cord people would be raving about it. Just because it was in an Indian movie, it isn't good - right.  What, we need only Quentin Tarantino to make our slick-kick-flicks?

Not withstanding the yellow media that says the helm of Yash Raj Films is very angry at whoever made that movie, I still think its a pretty decent movie that gives you your money's worth in the form of Akshay Kumar's doofus acting, Anil Kapoor's attitude and of course, Kareena's zero size bikini dare.

So yeah, I go on record, the movie is not that bad, but its something not expected from Yash Chopra, so was not Chak De India, but Chak De India. Maybe he should make a Yash Chopra Popcorn Entertainment channel or something.
