I primarily went to watch the movie because of the trailers.Actually, the trailers weren't very intriguing unlike 'Race'.But what attracted me to the cinema halls were the beautiful songs complete with a heavy starcast & colourful costumes. Many might watch the promos & think that this is the usual gangster story where two guys fall in love with the same girl, thereby creating a love triangle in an action-infused environment.Wrong!!!!!Gotcha!
Jimmy(Saif Ali Khan) is actually Jitender who has modified his name to suit his profession. He works in a call center & also teaches English to 'call center wannabes'.He's a ladies man,but he's bored of the fake accented desi girls he's been dating(all of them were from his English class). He wants to experience love with a woman of substance. He soon meets her in the form of Pooja Singh(Kareena Kapoor). He falls for her at first sight since she's everything he's ever wanted in a girl-mesmerising beauty, pretty clothes,no fake accent & a hybrid of Indian & western culture. She requests Jimmy to teach English to her boss Bhaiyajji(Anil Kapoor) within three months. The only catch is that he has to teach Bhaiyajji at his private mansion.Jimmy accepts & soon, even Pooja reciprocates the same feelings Jimmy has for her. When they're together,Jimmy hears Bhaiyajji scolding Pooja in a very harsh manner.Jimmy asks Pooja to quit her job,but she tells him that she's indebted to Bhaiyajji for the rest of her life.Desperate to get married to Pooja & fix her problems,Jimmy devises a plan alongwith her to steal a part of Bhaiyajji's money & elope. After stealing the money & handing it over to Pooja,Jimmy comes to find out that Bhaiyajji is actually a bloodthirsty don from Kanpur. He also finds out that Pooja is missing. While searching for her,he gets abducted by Bhaiyajji's goons & comes to know that even Bhaiyajji is searching for Pooja as well as his money.Jimmy realises that he's been made a fool of by a damsel in distress.Bhaiyyaji appoints Bachchan Pande(Akshay Kumar) from Kanpur to retrieve Pooja & the money.Bachchan Pande is a rough & tough rowdy & idolises Bhaiyajji.Bachchan finds out that Jimmy has an idea of where Pooja might be & tags him along as well, since Bhaiyyaji tells Bachchan that Jimmy might be useful in the search. On the way,Pooja catches up with the duo & that's where the whole whirlwind of trouble begins.
The cast is excellent in their own sweet way.In the first half of the movie,Saif leads the way while in the second half,Akshay & Kareena do the main roles & Saif plays the support. But throughout the movie,Anil Kapoor keeps you entertained with his bad guy role. His English cum Hindi dialogues are meant to be deadly in a funny way.Kareena sizzles in her role as the gutsy Pooja. It's nice to see that the script includes a brave girl who does her own stuff without shouting out 'Bachaooo!!!!!!'.Akshay is charming in his tough guy-soft heart role.
The songs keep you humming to the tune & the locations of the shooting are beautiful & classy.A special mention on Kareena's dresses in this movie-they may be minimal at times, but the colours used are bright & pretty.Infact, the dress designer deserves a whole lot of praise since even the Indian costumes are made to look very unique by the fine choice of colours. If everyone had such a knack for choosing salwars, ghagras & bangles of these colours, then I swear that no Indian lady would ever feel unwanted by any man.
There's not much story here. But it's the style & attitude of the cast which rules the movie.Mostly, the story bulids up the characters. But here, the starcast make the plot trace it's path.
To sum up,if you want some worthwhile timepass, then this is the movie for you.
