TARA RAM PUM is a story of Undergdogs and how they endure the upheavals of time. Like Siddhartha Anand's previous venture SALAAM NAMASTE, TRPP also focuses on relationship but this time between the wife and husband. S/N was a bold flick by Indian standard whereas TRPP is a true traditional Bollywood movie with all the typical masala of a family entertainer. The story telling is simple, captivating, sensitive and one that will strike a chord with one and all.
Rajveer [Saif] has been passionate about race cars from his childhood. After the death of his parents, he dropped out of college and started working in the crew of a racing team. Rajeev’s life changes forever after he meets Harry(Javed Jafferi) who would become Rajeev’s future manager.Rajveer’s talent is discovered by Harry and he joins ‘Speeding Saddles’, a failing race team and wins the race. On the same day, Rajeev also meets the woman of his dreams, Radhika(Rani Mukherjee) that culminates into marriage. Over the years, the couple is blessed with two kids Princess and Champ.The girl’s name is Priya but her parents lovingly call her ‘Princess’. She loves her Dad, Mama, her younger brother Champ and Bruno(their dog).
The happy life of this loving family is over after RV meets a serious accident on the race track. RV is hospitalized for a few months. When he tries to make a comeback after recuperating, he realizes that he has lost his edge on the racing track.
Then, in a sudden twist of fate, RV gets one last chance to prove his mettle on the race-track. It is a chance for RV to reclaim everything that was taken away from him.
The best thing about the film is that despite the routine plot director Siddharth Anand treats it with an elan .Although the pace is slow, the screenplay is quite captivating at several places. The first half is quite enjoyable with the flashback being a highlight. The change of events towards the interval is equally fascinating. It's emotional and your heart reach out to the characters of Saif and Rani .And the good thing the director does not stretch the accident part .The narrative takes a stride of 1 year and the fun quotient is maintain throughout .Even the second half is equally good .
Directorially, Siddharth has handled a few scenes with aplomb. The sequence in a bus between Rani and her father succeeds in arresting the attention of the viewer . Even the emotional moments succeed in touching your heart. Also, the car race is amongst the film's high points.Its simply breath taking and I swear I have never seen something like this on the Indian screen before.
Music is pleasant and gels well with the mood of the film. The numbers that stand out are'Hey Shona', 'Ab to Forever' and'Nachle ve'.Cinematography is first-rate. The look of the film is fresh and the outdoor locations of NY are exotic.
Saif Ali carries the film on his shoulders and towers above everyone else.His growth as an actor is simply tremendous.
Rani Mukherji is back! The actress who was down and out thanks to miserable performances in KABHI ALVIDA NA KEHNA and BAABUL makes a terrific comeback.Her performance is simply outstanding .The two kids are simply adorable.Jved Jafrey provides a good support.
To Sum Up TARA RUM PUM is targeted at the family audience and will satiate the appetite of those seeking clean entertainment.Watch it with your entire family .A perfect treat for the weekend.
