Here comes the first Yash Raj movie of 2007. And it is one of the best movies to have come out of Yash Raj Films!

The story of the movie: Rajveer Singh (Saif Ali Khan) is a pit crew worker in a racing team, who has a dream of becoming a big racer. One day, he gets discovered by the manager of the ‘Speeding Saddles’ racing team, Harry (Javed Jaaferi). On the same day, he also meets Radhika (Rani Mukherji), and Rajveer falls in love with her in first sight itself. Harry realizes that Rajveer has a good potential and can become a great racer. So, Rajveer is admitted into the team and his name is changed to RV. And RV wins the first race itself! RV’s victory saves his team, Speeding Saddles, as it was on a verge of closing down. RV then started winning races in all over USA. His love for Radhika also blossoms. Some time later, RV and Radhika get married and Radhika gives birth to Princess (Angelina Idnani) and Champ (Ali Haji). Everything was going fine, until one day RV, while racing, meets with an near-fatal accident. This accident was caused by RV’s envious and ruthless rival Rusty (Ken Thomson). This accident devastates RV’s life, and to some extent the life of his family members too.

Tara Rum Pum wins and succeeds in almost every field. Tara Rum Pum would have been a plain fare, if the racing factor had been not there. The racing sequence makes the movie an exciting one. Tara Rum Pum would not be accepted instantly by the viewers, because of some typical Hindi movie-types sequences in the first half. But the emotional second half is what makes the movie a must watch. There is a high emotional quotient in the movies, which will surely movie each and everyone.

But Tara Rum Pum becomes completely victorious because of its climax. The last 20 minutes was exciting and nail biting. In fact, after a very very very long time, I was so happy and satisfied after watching a movie’s climax!

So, any flaws or any cons? Unfortunately, yes! But they are minor ones. As I said before, some parts of first half are such, because of which the movie may not be instantly likeable. Another problem is that movie gets too long, especially in the second half. The title song (involving

animation) could have been edited, or the song should have kept when the titles roll in the ending.

Saif Ali Khan gives one of the best performances of his career. Right from the beginning till the climax, he gives a great performance and acts in his own great style. He gets completely into the skin of the character. Saif is really director’s actor, or Siddharth Anand’s actor!

Rani Mukherji gives a fantastic performance. She looked sizzling in her new look in the first half. Javed Jaaferi is extremely likeable and after his terrific performance in Salaam|Namaste, he again gives a great performance.

Bharat Dabholkar as Speeding Saddles team’s head gives a formal performance. Victor Banerjee (Rani’s dad) does a good job, though he had a small role. Angelina Idnani enacts her role properly. Ali Haji (last seen in Fanaa) was nice too. Shruti Seth (Rani’s pal) was okay. Bingo, the dog, looked very cute. I was deeply moved for him when Saif leaves him.

Vishal-Shekhar’s music was as usual fabulous! The duo, are today the best music composers of the country and after delivering melodious music in Dus, Salaam|Namaste, Bluffmaster!, Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, etc, they give another remarkable and unforgettable music in Tara Rum Pum. Good going, Vishal-Shekhar!

All the songs were melodious and nice. The 2 title tracks, ‘Hey Shona’, ‘Nachle Ve’, ‘Ab To Forever’ were excellent. ‘Saaiyaan Ve’ was excellent and Vishal Dadlani sings it with a powerful emotion!

Salim-Sulaiman’s background score was, like everytime, fantastic. Binod Pradhan’s cinematography was fabulous. It would be foolhardy if he does not gets the Best Cinematography award!

Vaibhavi Merchant’s choreography was cool and rocking. Sharmistha Roy’s art direction was superb. Habib Faisal’s screenplay and dialogues were great. The 3D animation was excellent and at par with the international standards.

Siddharth Anand’s direction was cool and is getting better with each and every film. Like his previous flick (Salaam|Namaste), the movie looks like a fresh entertainer. Siddharth does a good job, especially in the second half, in the emotional sequences and in the climax. Siddharth, I am waiting eagerly waiting for your third movie!

Some of the best scenes of the movie:

  1. Saif’s entry

  2. The scene where Saif meets Javed Jaaferi and Rani for the first time

  3. ‘Hey Shona’ song

  4. The scene where Saif meets with an accident

  5. The scene where Saif comes back to racing after the accident

  6. The scene where Saif drives the cab

  7. The last 30 minutes of the movie

  8. The climax (Fantastic)

On the whole, Tara Rum Pum one of the most outstanding movies to have come out of Yash Raj Film. Everything is perfect in this movie and the climax will surely make you happy and satisfied. Do Not Miss It!!
