Before I start my review on the movie, my congratulations to Kangana Ranaut for an exceptional performance in Haryanvi girl role.
Briefly, the movie is the story of a married couple getting into dissatisfaction immediately after a love marriage due to finicky activities of lady partner landing the man in mental hospital. During separation after release from hospital, the man meets a Haryanvi girl athlete and falls in love with her. The girl, despite all odds and resistance from her orthodox Haryanvi Jat family, also accepts his proposal for marriage. While the marriage functions are on, the previous lady returns and asks for forgiveness and resumption of her marriage ties. The bridegroom, though initially hesitant, accedes to her demand and leaves the "Saat Phere" ceremony before the last phera. The Haryanvi girl is left to cry on her fate.
Though the movie is a good entertainer throughout, the climax appears stupid, specially in Indian context. Firstly, the choice of going back to a tested lady who left you in mental hospital is strange. Secondly, the Haryanvi girl is shown to be so simple and straight that in spite of accepting a potential divorcee as her first husband, she just gives him away mid way through the ceremony of "Saat Phere". Then, her completely orthodox Haryanvi Jaat family also accepts it without any say. Appears, insane.!. Just try it once.
Kangana is exceptional. Madhvan is OK, other actors have also fared well. Shergill does not have much to do. Direction is good. Oveall, a good entertainer on not so good script.
