My first visit to Tandoor was nearly five years ago and though I don't remember the specifics, I do believe that it had struck me as being quite impressive. So, when the opportunity beckoned again, I was more than willing to give it another shot.

The first impression was quite good, to be honest. It had great interiors with ethnic paintings all over, including the roof. Also, they had several foreign patrons visiting which was quite surprising. We were guided to a table by some courteous staff and were handed over the menu immediately.

The menu was quite typical of any other high-end North Indian restaurant. It had the regular shorbas, paneer tikkas and the works, if you know what I mean :). We placed our order and they took a good fifteen minutes to come with the starter. We had ordered for mushroom tikkas and it was very tasty. The portion size was very adequate, almost too much for 2 people with about 10 big-sized mushrooms being served. It had some stuffing in addition to the tandoor, which was a little different from the standard mushroom tikka.

It was then time for the main course and after much debate, we finalised on Butter Naan, Laccha Paratha, Veg Noorani Kofta and Mixed Vegetable Raita. The Paratha was really good, and the Naan was average. The ends were a little too hard to eat comfortably. The kofta too was average and tasted pretty much like the Malai Kofta with a different name. Overall, it was decent, but not outstanding as I had expected. The bill came up to about Rs. 1200 for a meal for two, which was slightly on the higher side, considering the nature of the food.

The cutlery was unimpressive and the glasses which were served for water looked quite used and old. The staff were pleasant, but the service was a little slow since we had to keep beckoning to the staff to get our work done. It was not that crowded, even though it was a weekend night and probably you need not really book in advance if you wish to visit, unless you're going in a huge group.

Overall, not a bad place. But could be better!
