Review of Talwar Medical Center*
This is what my father who is over 80 and was admitted for a urinary infection recently, has to say about it:
“This is regarding Dr. Talwar whose reputation in the last few years has spread far and wide. In earlier years he had a very encouraging success and proved to be useful for a medium income patient. Over the years he lost a sense of balance and got extremely money minded, losing a sense of correct judgment. I have had the opportunity of having to stay for shorter periods. This time my short term treatment got extended beyond measure due to a lack of judgment by the doctors. I have now had a very bitter experience and would recommend that people patronize this place with great caution”
To explain further:
1) He was treated by a ‘consultant’ Dr. Shashi Mohan who had no idea how to handle his high fever. He was rude and unhelpful to the family members. Without consulting the family he administered injections which cost Rs 15000 a day.
2) My father had the expectation of being treated by Dr. Talwar who was out of town. But even on returning and hearing our concerns about Dr. Shashi Mohan, Dr. Talwar refused to take over my father’s case. It seems that commercial relationships took precedence over concern for a patient’s condition.
3) He was released after 12 days without his fever going away completely. We were charged a marked up price for the drug ‘Meropenem’ of Rs 2400 per gram which would have cost us Rs 1500 per gram from our local chemist. Even though we felt we should have been told before administering this expensive drug, we agreed to pay the discounted price which we felt was fair. Dr. Talwar refused to agree to this as is was ‘against their policy’.
4) During my father’s stay the staff was overworked and not easily available. They should not have been taking in more patients if they did not have enough people to handle them.
5) The overcharging for medication and the other experiences outlined above shows us that the Talwar Medical Center is now purely a commercial enterprise and not interested in the welfare of the patient.
