What to say, I mean this film stars Aamir Khan and is directed by Aamir as well. Did you not get excited just for those two reasons?
A film which is hatke. I very much doubt a top film banner would consider having a child as the main lead. The story is about a dyslexic child. I know we have seen many good films this decade but none of them had such a complex topic as this. This is why its hatke.
Ishaan is a 8 year old boy who loves drawing and loves looking at fish. He performs poorly in his exams. This is not helped by the fact that his older brother is a class topper.
After finding out that he bunked school, and meeting his teachers, Ishaan's father decides to send him to a boarding school. Ishaan is unable to take this, and his life gets even worse there. That is until, the arrival of a new art teacher, Ram Shankar Nikumbh. Ram recognises that Ishaan has problems because he has dyslexia. He is able to understand his problems as he himself suffered from the same problems.
He convinces the principal to give him more time to improve and that he will help him. Ram also meets his parents and makes them realise about his situation. Ishaan's interest in art is re-kindled by the arrival of Ram. Ishaan's victory in the Art competition made me applaud.
The Music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is truly of high standard. The title song is the best of the lot, and the picturisation will make you realise that there are people who are not so lucky. Kholo Kholo is good. Maa is fabulous, in every sense, the singing by Shankar Mahadevan, the lyrics by Prasoon Joshi, the music and the picturisation.
Amol Gupte has written one of the best scripts ever written! He has based it on what he has seen himself. A hugely talented man, I hope to see more of him.
One reason why the film succeeds is because of its spell-blinding performances.
Darsheel Safary is a revalation, they year's best performance. He has to win the Best Actor and Best Newcomer Actor. If he doesn't, it will be shocking.
Tisca Chopra is magnificent, she shows real emotion and her relationship with Darsheel seems real. Vipin Sharma does well in his role, as does Sachet Engineer.
Aamir Khan as usual is amazing. Not only his acting, his direction is top notch. He deserves awards although he won't care about those. Aamir is truly the best actor in Hindi Cinema. Sir, I am in awe of you.
Undoubtedbly, the best film of the year, probably the best of the decade, yes ahead of Rang De Basanti. I have said enough, go watch it if you havent already, you will make a big mistake if you don't see it.
