Taare Zameen Par highlights the pressure and stress that kids all over India face in the present day. Amole Gupte's story, Amir Khan's direction and Darsheel Safary's performance as a dyslexic child bogged down by his parents' expectations blend together in perfect harmony to tell the story of a kid lost in the forest of the world's expectations. Amir Khan's character doesnt appear in the film till the interval. But he is not missed by the audience and that is a great tribute to Amir Khan, the director. In a world where every parent expects his/her child to be as good as, or better, than the neighbor's kid, Irshaan is a child who has trouble solving 3x9. Forced to join a boarding school, Irshaan loses the desire to do the one thing he does best, paint.
In enters Amir Khan, the new art teacher, who teaches the adults in the film, as also in the theatre that the world isnt confined to engineers and doctors and managers.
The music is soulful with beautiful lyrics that make you think. The screenplay is tight with many instances that remind us of our schooldays. The climax is shot wonderfully and I dont expect anyone else could have done any better. Overall a movie that every family should watch to learn what it means to view the world from a child's perspective.
A worthy finish to 2007!
