I always thought and still maintain that Aamir Khan is and

will always be the true Badshah of Bollywood. Taare Zameen Par only reiterates

that fact. Move over Shahrukh - Aamir is here to rule!

I wasn't very keen to watch TZP in the beginning.... I don't

know why. Maybe it was because everyone was telling me to see it...I thought

maybe it's one of those over hyped movies and I'll be disappointed... but an

Aamir Khan movie couldn't, in my opinion, be bad... so my parents (who were

visiting me at the time) and I went to the movie theater to watch this much

talked about flick.

I refuse to divulge the plot even though most of you have

probably already seen it and for those who haven't - enough people have told

you what it's about....I’ll just give you my personal opinion of TZP.

In his directorial debut, Aamir Khan has proved that one

doesn't a six pack or a pony tail. Neither does one need to act in a copy cat

Hollywood production. All one needs is a story. A good, simple story.

So much has been said about Aamir beig a perfectionist. People have mocked him, laughed at him and Shahrukh Khan has even goe on record saying that he thinks Aamir is too big for his boots as he doesn't go to award functios...ad that the only award functios he goes to are the Oscars...well.. if truth be told.... THAT'S HIS LEAGUE! Aamir is a perfectioist - yes! And it is that perfection and professionalism that has given us a gem like TZP today.  In my opiion, people who mock others are simply insecure themselves ad isecure of their inability to be perfect. So rock on Aamir. There are millions of Indians who thik you rock!

The first thing that struck me is the titles - I loved the

fact that Aamir chose to have the little boy's name appear before his in the

credits.

I also loved the title..Taare Zameen Par... to me the most

obvious meaning of the film's title was that Aamir was talking about all the

little stars we have in children who are on earth...but when you see the

movie...you also understand the hidden deeper meaning of this powerful title and

movie:

The movie is about dyslexia. In simple terms : A person

suffering from this condition has trouble processing similar looking letters of

the alphabet and numbers. They see mirror images and therefore can not comprehend

what is being taught. Dyslexia can be more complex but this is not a review

about the condition so I'll save you the read. Since the child in the movie is dyslexic...he

sees everything upside down...and therefore Taare Zameen Par is exactly what he

sees! Not literally but the essence of the movie is that. He sees things the

way others don't and vice versa. Stars on earth? Aren’t they supposed to be in

the sky? – Get it?

Aamir's direction is superfluous and his acting is just pure

genius. The sensitivity with which he has handled this delicate subject and the

intensity of emotions it surges within you is just awesome. There wasn't a dry

eye in the packed theatre...and this included the ticket collectors who had

probably seen this movie several times already. I even caught my father who is “Mr

Tough Guy” wiping away tears unabashedly.

It would be unfair to say that only Aamir is responsible for

this gem. The entire cast has acted brilliantly. The parents are little known

actors and so is the older brother but they did more than justice to their rolls. The

various teachers also acted very very well... the accents they had, the way

some teachers talk and how they punish - just superb. I think Aamir drew a lot

out of his own experiences.

The songs are just amazing. Even though they're all good -

surprisingly the one that touched me the most and had me crying my eyes out was

a song called Maa. It was just so apt and shook me to the very core.

People - I urge you to see this movie! Maybe not 8 - 10

times like I have already done :o) But see it. It is what cinema should be.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this film and will be shocked

and very very annoyed if it is not sent in as India's entry for the Oscars

& Golden Globes.
