Suzuki Max 100 some details thought to share

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

Type 2 Stroke

Displacement 98 cc

Max. Power 7.8 bhp

Max. Speed 82 kmph

Starting Kick Start

No. of Cylinders 1 OTHER FEATURES

Electrics(AC/DC) 12V  DC

Overall Length 1865 mm

Ground Clearance 140 mm

Height 1053 mm

Wheelbase 1217 mm

Kerb Weight 96 Kgs

Fuel tank capacity 12.0 lit

GEARS: 4 gear all front down.

Performance  - Generally 50+ KMPL is common and 40+ KMPL is also heard of.

My Vehicle performance before Bore expansion: 63 KMPL in highway, 59 KMPL in city(Bangalore).

Service/Maintenance  -

The lesser the better, 2 stroke engines don't like maintenance regularly and only should be done if absolutely necessary

Service it once a month, good performance.

Service once in 6 months excellent performance.

Service it once a year its the superb excellent performance.

That is what Suzuki and other two stroke Engines are. They never tire to give the best unlike 4 stroke engines.

My Personal work done for Higher Pick-up

Changes made - Expanded the bore, 108 CC Shogun size and incorporated Shogun Piston.

Retained - Same Carburetor and No Silencer modifications.

Thank God my mechanic a humble guy found apt fellow to do this task in best possible way.

Cost - total servicing, Oil change, Rebore was Rs 1500 only. Yes, you read it correct.

Result - the engine as usual Robust, now raring to go once put the first gear and by the time the second gear is put the engine throttles me way ahead of all the uncle bikes with such ease. I once took over a competing Bullet from a signal and was leading till some distance.

Performance - 56 KMPL in Highway, 52 KMPL in city.

Pickup should be anywhere between 9 to 10 BHP since when I throttle, the engine feels the thirst as the volume of petrol flow is less compared to Shogun Carburetor. But 0-60 KM I can achieve in clean 8 sec for my weight 1 sec less than Yamaha RX 135, a 97 Model bike I bought and have got it into restored to MINT condition.

Comparison with 4-S Technology

When I see 4 Stroke bikes I don't feel bad about them because the comparison of the two technologies are like comparing 2 sides of a coin even though the coin is same and here it is Vehicle commutation.

But TWO Stroke technology is far more efficient provided you make the design of the engine to perform that way. Suzuki here shows Fuel efficiency can be as good as 4 Stroke engines for higher pickup at less RPM with minimal maintenance.

Lets say if I was to compare Hero Honda 100 CC with Suzuki 100 CC:

Both are having similar specifications and though they belong to different technologies the mileage are similar.

Maintenance is extremely less in two stroke technology, pick up is 1., 5 times that of 4 stroke for 70% RPM.

After checking with many many people I understand a best maintained Splendor can give fuel efficiency between 48-55, rare cases 60.

My DAD's HH CD 100 94 Model still gives 65 KMPL. So my Max 100 is not far behind.but I don't need to spend on maintenance a advantage ans get very high pickup. Right?.

I always wondered the twin spark, DTS-SI and DTSI, technologies would be experimented with OIL cooling engines for 2 stroke engines to reduce pollution and higher pickup.

May be Bajaj who has numerous patents can try the R N D on the vehicles with multiple Spark plugs from 2(till say 10).kidding. They already have vehicles with 3 spark plugs, can you believe. The only thing is that the engines have not exploded or melted due to extreme heat.

Imagine a 2 stroke engine Pulsar 150 CC engine giving 23 BHP, 1.5 times that of 4 stroke counterpart and that also at say 6000 - 8000 RPM.Dont wake me let me dream, for if I was a mechanical engineer, I myself would have liked to do. But bad luck I am Electrical Engineer and more into Software than TWO wheelers. But last 3-4 years have been very productive thanks to sharing, My Gyan is a 1000 times better than an average biker.

I always say I am a proud Indian, but not all Indians make us proud. Worldwide when strict emission norms came, India made sure by 2005 there were no more 2 stroke vehicles manufactured except vehicles < 80 CC(PLEASE CORRECT ME). So all 2 stroke bikes were stopped from being manufactured and only TVS Excel 70 CC is being manufactured.

What about research? Has India done any significant research in improving the best technology called two stroke. So you say 150 Million people stay in this country and we cant find 1 damn Extra ordinary Idiot to fix this problem.Really sad and more sadder is I also belong to those who cant contribute.

Believe me, the mechanics in India are better equipped and have now better knowledge than the company employees when it comes to machines. May be some one should try during his free time on R N D s on 2 stroke vehicles for less emissions and good mileage. You give for general service at showrooms and they screw the engines badly. Don't believe try it. Mechanics sometimes do wonders on the vehicles. They actually should be called in by company guys and free seminars should be done for encouragement and talent sharing and grooming. But for a generation, don't expect that in India at least.

Finally a humble request - Groom your child to do something no other guy has done.

Tell them what scopes are there in life and guide them, so that 2 generations later we can see two stroke engines back with new vigor and charm, then wiping out the 4 stroke bike technology once for all as 4 Stroke engines wiped out the 2 strokes 10 years back.
