Great Cute Two Wheeler!. Review on TVS Scooty Pep+

I am basically a software professional working as higher management. I usually use Car and very rarely use Bike. It is mainly due to the traffic, lack of comfort, heavy dust, noise, need for wearing helmet, reduced safety and many many more in the list. I came to a situation where my kid's school moved close to my residence to a distance that is neither walkable nor worth to take out the car and travel in it. Sure, I need a two wheeler for my Wife so that she can pickup and drop our kids from the school.

My wife drive car very well but never tried a two wheeler. As I usually do before any purchase, I visited several websites, dealers, showrooms and took test rides. to be frank no two wheeler facinated me and all failed to give good reasons to go for a two wheeler. I was not able to decide on the brand and model coz either it is too bulky in size, weight, prize or too small even to look at it. Following are some of the vehicles I tried before making a decision.

Honda Activa - Too Bulky, Too expensive(47K including all fittings), . sure not for my requirement

Honda Access - Too Bulky, price was increased suddenly from 37K to 45K.Same like Honda Activa

Bajaj Crystal - No one knows when Bajaj will stop any model, stop spares & show way for it to Junk

Honda Pleasure - Good look, slightly expensive but ok but the dealer refused to deliver it at home

Scooty Teenz - Good look, affordable but 2 stroke, less power not much price difference with Pep Plus

Scooty Pep Plus - Good look, affordable, better power, reasonable price, good features

Yes finally we decided on Scooty Teenz and Scooty Pep. There are two showrooms here in Trichy one is PLA and another is Shriraj. Both are almost within 3 KM radius from my place. Coz of my job nature, time is a real huge constraint to me. It took me nearly 3 weeks even to visit the showroom.

I went to the PLA showroom with my wife & kids, being already finalized on one of the two models we went there just to pay and take delivery of the vehicle coz I was not sure when I will be able to visit the showroom again. The showroom is ok but the way the staff behaved is pathetic, they never cared even to give the price and options available. Finally I managed to get the price and was about to issue a ICICI Cheque of a local branch. To my surprise they said no cheques are accepted and in addition they started talking about the possibility of I am cheating them and running off. Then I opted to pay for Credit Card / Debit Card. they do not have provision for that. Wow . what a professionalism. sure these people are meant only for a different class and they lack even the basic sense of sensing a potential buyer. Pathetic. My wife got dissappointed by their behaviour and we dropped the idea and left the place immediately. Sure, Here in Trichy I do not know why these guys have their showrooms and staff, no one really cares for a customer or to make a sale of their product. They seems to be having it just for the sake of having it .hmm

We went to Shriraj after nearly another 6 weeks. This time it is totally different, the showroom and the way they moved with customers are really good. Luckily the sales manager who worked there in the showroom is the one who worked in a Hyundai Showroom where I took my first Santro by 2000. This time it is time for closing their showroom, I just collected his business card and returned back. After a week, when my wife raised about the two wheeler I called him over mobile and he asked me to come to the showroom just for a couple of minutes and finish the Registration document formalities. I went  there again at the time of showroom closing, gave cheque for 38, 045.00(Rs. 500.00 cheaper due to tax change), the onroad price including all, I signed documents for registration, selected color and in 10 minutes the task is over.

Next day they finished the registration formalities by themselves and door delivered our Scooty Pep Plus by 3:00 pm. Great service, I thanked him and dropped him back in the showroom in my car and went back to my office. When I came back from office at around 8:00 pm, to my surprise my wife and my elder daughter started riding it in our colony where traffic is very sparce.

Next day morning I had a chance to take a closer look of our Scooty Pep Plus. It was really excellent in its red colour. The dealer provided crash gaurd in the front, rear and sides in chromium plating and the floor mat at no extra cost.

My prejudice was that such two wheelers are meant only for ladies but due its appearance it tempted me to take a ride on it. The Engine is pretty smooth, responsive to its class. Self Starter, Automatic Choke, Automatic Fuel Switch makes it usable even for a 6th Standard person a breeze to use. The Side Stand warning indicator is sure a handy safety measure. Under seat storage is sufficient for a helmet or lighter day-today shopping, the Clips near the seat front edge, retractable hook near front tray and front tray for hanging carry bags makes it very handy to bring home all our shopping things with comfort. Rear view mirror is well designed, sure deserves highlighting it. The Center stand is very well designed, even a twelve year old girl is able to use it at ease. Height, Weight, Style, Features all in all an excellent two wheeler. I really started loving it and I prefer Scooty pep instead of my cars. Very very handy, Great value for money.

Vehicle is really pretty smooth and sure a pleasure to ride. Now it covered slightly more than 100 Km and I am not sure of the mileage coz my wife and daughter used it most of the time to learn riding, now they are using it for their everyday work. so far I put fuel for only 200 bucks and the petrol indicator is showing 75% fuel. Regarding mileage I may be able to update this review later, may be after it covers few hundred KMs. The Economy indicator is connected to the throttle level, a good work to hone our habit of better riding for better mileage. Being a four stroke, there is no need for additional oil to be added to fuel. Fuel filling requires opening the seat but in one way it is safer than the one at the front, which poses risk in case of crash. The fuel tank in scooty pep plus is well placed below the seat safely though we have to open the seat for fuelling. Riding comfort is smooth, stable and great!.

I am really happy on the decision I have taken, it is my wife and kid who will be riding on this, sure safety, ease of usability is my highest priority than anything else. Scooty Pep Plus fits it very well.

Soon one day even I may ride on it to my office too(if my kids and wife allow me to use it!). A real great two wheeler, I would love to recommend it to others.
