TVS Scooty _ Get pepped Up !. Review on TVS Scooty Pep+

The latest TVS Scooty has been launched, the 4 Stroke version of TVS Scooty. Don' t look for similarities between the Scooty 2S & Scooty Pep. They are different.

A brief on my experience on this New Model !!

The Versions :-

Pep model has 2 versions, Std & Dlx. Dlx has body colored mirrors, Aluminium make components, & different shape back carrier. Difference is Rs. 1000 in the on road price of the 2 models.

Howz the TVS Scooty ?????

First The looks, & Styling !

Scooty Pep looks more like Bajaj Saffire. But Colour schemes & Shape are comparatively better. The 2 tone colour scheme is a new idea. Colors are Blue, Red, Black, Green, & Silver. For visualizing the models go to Pepgallery section of the site. Lower panel is in Silver in all models. Company claims this is an international trend, but the matching of panel contours & matching color shades of upper & lower panel is done very poorly. It looks good on Green & Blue models. About all other color shades less said is better. Especially the silver model, the difference is glaring. Panel finish is good, TVS Pep leaves a lot to be desired on the matching aspect of the panels. The Pep scores a full negative on the gaps between the matching components. There is a big gap between the Headlight & the handle contour containing the same. Front Side indicator lights just pop out from their location. Looks as if they have come out of the vehicle. Screws used for these lights were rusted, both in the model on display & the one, which I bought.

Cudos to the Console of the Scooty Pep! It’ s just great ! The seat looks good, & is comfortable !

The Ride on the Scooty pep !

Design of the Kick for starting Pep is suitable for person sitting on the bike & starting the vehicle. If you stand by the vehicle & try to start, your foot will hit the ground & will hurt you. Scooty Pep has a better acceleration compared to other models in its category. The firing is not hard on your ears. But once you start accelerating, noise becomes a botheration. Braking is efficient & Shock absorption on bumpy roads is highly satisfactory. No need to apply too much effort while riding this model. The controls are conveniently located & soft touch. You don't have to fumble or stretch yourself to reach them.

Mileage !!

Brochures were not available when I booked the vehicle. The site is silent about the same. Operator manual doesn't say anything about it. So my guess is as good as your guess.

The features !!

''Side stand alarm'' is becoming a common in all 2 wheelers now..The Pep also has it. I didn’ t get what is “Power” Mode & what is “Economy” mode; it’ s just when you accelerate beyond a certain speed the light changes from “Economy” to “Power” mode. No sensible difference, except the change in speed. All aspects of the storage space, “Glove box”, innovative “Backpack Hook”, “Twin bag hook”, & compartmentalized “Utility Box” deserve a compliment !!

Let me explain how I got this model.

I read about the launch in one of the Auto magazines this February. I took the same to the nearest Auto dealer , who was ignorant about the product. He said it will take time, & I kept following up continuously. From Feb to April, there was no information available anywhere.

The site named tvssuzuki.com is noway related to the company. I just couldn' t get the company' s site through the Net. Towards end of April the local dealer said the model has been launched at Authorised dealer level. No media Advertisement in the Newspapers, or TV. So much for a company selling the largest selling single brand 2 wheeler!

Like every other 2 Wheeler manufacturer, TVS also has 1 big Authorised dealer in Mumbai. I don' t know why but the dealer has chosen all remote locations for the display. I had to travel a lot before I got to see the model.

About the Finance Schemes !

Site doesn’ t explain anything in detail about it ! Authorised dealer says private finance schemes are available, obviously the interest rate is high. The DLX model which I bought was not available on display. The delivery of this version also takes more time than the Std model.

About the site !

It attempts to be Hip n Cool; The colours are, but no innovative ideas to tell, except the way it tells you about how much has been downloaded, every time you hit a link. The “Get Pepped Up” Section tries to distribute some Gyan but is all trash. The Gallery gives you some idea about the how the model looks. But that’ s all.

Do you wish to know why I bought the model?

Principle reasons are weight & Technology.

It' s probably the most light weight model in 4 stroke category, lighter than Nova & Dio. Styling is appealing than these models, especially when you know the price difference.

In terms of weight, only TVS Scooty 2 Stroke is lighter than this model, but on many aspects like styling, riding etc. this model scores over Scooty 2 stroke.
