Simple scooterette. Review on TVS Scooty - KS

Introduction

once upon a time the Indian lady when wants to use a 2 wheeler looked for somebody who can take her in the pillion ( as the only scooters available were of vespa and lamberata with big engines and gears). Then first came the relief in the form of kinetic Honda which some ladies could use.But the correct scooter for a lady is it should be a moped with a look of scooter. TVS SCOOTY did the perfect thing required for her.

LOOK and EQUIPMENT

Scooty is one of the attractive scooters around.Recently the company has modified the headlight-speedo assembly which looks somewhat cute.Side indicators are within the assembly.Scooty is the lengthiest of its kind.Couple and a child can go easily.There is enough space under the seat ( I have not tested if a helmet can go).My SCOOTY is KS ( KICK START) version that means no battery .SO maintaining battery is avoided.Also no fuel gauge, only petcock which is ok.Choke is conveniently positioned near the right brake lever.

ENGINE and TRANSMISSION

Engine is 2 stroke 60 cc which give 3.6 bhp ( max. in this category).This means it is like moped ( TVS already has moped in 60 cc - super champ I think).But both engines are different.Gears are variomatic means no changing of gears required . ( Just throttle control only).It is smooth and u wont feel any thing under the seat.kick start never fails. One gentle warning for the people going for ES version:BAttery is not powerful so u have to use the vehicle daily for charging also u have TO kick start in the morning first time .( where the majority of kickstart problems come usually, if ur able to start then afterwards it is easy)So I never regretted the KS version which is Rs 3000 less and need not worry about the battery.

ON the ROAD

The best thing about scooty is it is very easy to ride.anybody can do this. Good for the beginners and college students ( girls especially, since there is storage space).After about 40km/hr speed it is smooth sailing.road grip is ok. brakes are ok.sitting position is slightly inclined but not uncomfortable. Ample space to keep legs and luggage.Mirror is the only problem I faced; never sits tight.It can climb with 3 people easily. pickup is very good. ( people bikes users used to blink when I move first in the signals)

Mileage

gives around 50 inside the city; May give more in highway conditions. Sice I am using for 2 or 3 kms only this much only I can expect.( for more mileage any vehicle should be run for long distances in single drive).The important thing is most bikes give mileage for some time and go down. But not scooty which gives consistent mileage.

Driving tips

Dont drive more than 40 kms/hr.Since it is variomatic gear ratio depends on the throttle position and the speed. within 40km all the gears will engage. U will feel the smoothness after 40.Dont accelerate after that ;it is pure petrol afterwards.When u mix 2T oil always close the petcock to off position or put the oil after the petrol.If oil goes first it may clog the fuel lines and carb. which gives starting problem.

VERDICT

Note: For the testing pls see the site https://cybersteering.com and click cruising, archives ( scooterrete wars) Scooty got 305 out of 360. that is the maximum.I can give the same marks but for only one thing. I dont understand WHY separate engine ( 60 cc) for moped and scooty. Moped engine gives more mileage.May be scooty has to loose its pickup to get more mileage.
