I saw and tested the new tvs scooty teenz last week. As usual very small, very sleek and unusually for a two stroke scooty very good looking as well. The scooterette looks very similar to the pep plus and can fool any but the most knowledgeable with its rounded panels . It is available only in two colours now -red and black but with a racy design. It is much lighter -at 80 kgs as against the 93 kgs of the pep and therefore easier to handle. The vehicle starts on the first press of the electric start and is smooth enough for a two stroke. It pulled two of us- me and the bloke from the service centre -about 110 kgs in all quite comfortably for a short ride that we took. The dicky is very huge - bigger than pep or pleasure or activa and can take a full face helmet easily. The engine appears to be the same old scooty two stroke engine which was very reliable and said by many to be much better and fuel efficient than even the pep and pep plus. IT should be an ideal vehicle for short trips of upto 5 kms- anything more and you might feel a bit uneasy as it feels a bit like a bicycle. However, its cost at Rs. 29500/- on road in Chennai is a whopping Rs 7000/- cheaper than the pep plus and Rs 11000/- less than the pleasure- two bikes in the reckoning. Therefore for one who has to travel only about 2-5 km a day, it might make economic sense- no point in spending 38000 to 41000 rupees if all you are going to drive is about 3000 kms a year- you will be bored with the vehicle and sell it in 5 years anyway! We need a second bike and are now debating between the pleasure and scooty teenz. The advantage of the teenz is that it can be driven by light weight kids as well as grown ups easily and comfortably and at just 3.5 BHP is not so powerful as to give the parents the jitters when the kids take the bike out! It is a safe and reliable buy unlike the kinetic kine/zing which are pure lemons.
