Let me offer the review in terms of pros and cons of the show :
PROS
The concept is very innovative, bold and entertaining. The comments offered by the music directors (who act as judges first and then compete with each other) are quite interesting - humourous at times, sometimes agonizing and yet provide great insights into what it really takes to become a good singer. Most people wouldn't notice the finer aspects of singing before they begin to regularly watch SaReGaMaPa Challenge 2005. Thus I feel that the opportunity for the competing music directors to offer comments on each singer is probably the best output of the show. Other pros are Shaan who keeps the show moving effortlessly and the musicians who do a fantastic job in supporting the candidates.
CONS
The biggest pro of the show as described above has manifested itself into the biggest con of the show as well. The comments of the music directors occassionally turn rude and thorny creating ill-feeling in participants minds as well as the TV audience like us. It doesnt appear that the music directors have been given any parameters to operate within. Gajendra Singh, director of the show, can certainly do better here if there is another season of the show.
OVERALL
This show is better than most other shows on TV, reality and fiction combined. The Show packs many things into one : Star power of the music directors, a refreshing new concept, talented candidates whose rendition of songs is highly entertaining, and lastly : probably the best host of all - Shaan.
