This is my first review.i bought tvs flame sr 125 in september 2009 , after analysing so many bikes like glamour , shine , zeus, xcd, gladiator and finally bought flame sr..i read reviews about those bikes in this site and am so happy to write review here...let me start my review...
I was sure to buy 125 cc bike..let me tell why i did not choose other bike
- Glamour = good bike with mileage 55kmpl , but i was looking for disc brake version which was not available in the showroom.they told me to book it in advance..it was not available even in trichy and pondicherry..they were not sure when it will come..so i left it
2.shine = its has a smooth honda engine but cost was 58000 and no digital display also....all high class uncles are driving it lol :) ..[ am a 20 year old medical student..wanted some style in it ]
- Xcd = 135 cc bike but weight is so less for a 135cc bike..no road grip..its a big minus
4.zeus = pick up is so less ..cant even say it as 125 cc bike..
5.yamaha gladiator = awesome pick up but poor mileage [ am looking for a bike with good pick up and mileage]
Then i saw the flame sr 125...i have read in newspapers about the conflict betwwen bajaj and tvs over the dual spark technology and the initial version was a great flop...now they have released a new version of flame called sr 125 , also tvs has no bike in that segment[125 cc] so i felt it will be a good bike with all the previous errors rectified..
My expectation was fulfilled ...
1.when i did test drive , the riding comfort is so nice...i have test driven all other bikes before and found nothing can match tvs flame 125 sr
Engine was so smooth , as if u r gliding in a butter
Shock absorber [5 step] was great..no jerks in bumpy roads..
As a result of test ride , i found these points...i asked the tvs showroom what the mileage was.he said 65-70kmpl...
Finally i bought tvs flame sr 125
On the next morning, i was bit worried with the electric start , i tried 4-5 times , it din start.then i applied choke and tried , it started but the morning start problem was ok after 4-5 days , then it started instantly without any apply of choke...
I drove very cautiously in 40 kmph speed and found the mileage was 63...i was very much impressed...the riding comfort is great , good shock absorber , awesome mileage , smooth engine , the pick up was nice..what else you need from a bike , at the cost of rs.54000 for a 125 cc bike.....
After 5 months, i changed the engine oil with castrol power and got the mileage 67..i m very much happy. I have done a long ride of 110 kilometers at a stretch ata speed of 75kmph and found the mileage to decrease to 60 kilometer per litre. I was on top of the world on getting such a mileage [ i use reliance petrol strictly ] the head lamps are very powerfull than many bikes.even honda unicorn head lamps are not so powerful . The tyres are very wide and are balloon tyres , so it provides a very safe ride...

Now coming to the drawbacks
Lack of 5th gear. Nowadays even 100 cc bikes like discover 100c are having 5 gears , but flame is 125 cc bike , but with only 4 gears..if 5 gears are present , then it will be more smooth and mileage i feel.
Little vibrations in the speed range of 40-45 but no vibrations after that I don't know why but i think the reason will be , in the first flame bike tht was released , there was 5 gears.now they have removed the 5th gear. So i think it may b the reason for little vibrations in the speed of 40-45 and no vibrations after that speed , even in 75 kilometers speed..
Verdict :
Tvs flame sr 125 is a bike with both pick up and mileage....in other words , it can be called a mini apache with great mileage..definitely worth buying !
