A NEW REVOLUTION IN 100CC EXECUTIVE BIKE SEGMENT

In early months of 2004 I saw the new TVS Bike named Centra with advertising to fill It once and use for entire month. During this time the tyre alignment problem of TVS Victor GL was in discussion and hence I preferred to wait for the real on road report Of TVS Centra. It is very important for a customer to have maximum information about the New products. In case of motorcycles, the experience of Bajaj-BYK, Bajaj-Hoodibaba, Bajaj Safire, TVS Spectra, TVS Samurai etc was considered and I postponed purchasing motorbike. After one year I purchased TVS Centra after studying the following all new features.


LOOKS AND SHAPE Nice shape of Centra which was already impressed me, new looking fuel tank and nice bikini is Doubtlessly attractive. Head light assembly is Trapezoidal giving good quality beam for nice Vision during night traveling. The colours available are Jewel Green, Deep Black, Titian Blue Blazing Red, Silver Ash, with mild and modern graphics offers Centra a fresh look. With all these cosmetics, Centra owns a great new and modern look than Splendor, Boxer, CT-100 Yamaha Crocks, Yamaha Libbero, etc.



TECHNICAL BETTERMENTS IN CENTRA Thanks to TVS Team to develop a 4-Stroke bike in 100cc segment when there is trend to increase the CC and price, which may gives high top speed but kills the economy, traffic safety, as well as ELF i.e. Engine Life Factor. Centra comes with 99.8cc 4-Stroke engine having boreXstroke of 51mmX48.8mm which produces 5.5KW or say 7.4BHP At just 7500 rpm. At the same time at 5000 rpm at compression ratio of 9.3 it develops 7.5 NM torque which is A nice achievement in this segment. Air filter is also double polyurethane filter element for more pure air supply to UCAL-MIKUNI VM 17 SH Carburetor. Here I cannot control myself to compare ELF and power generation difference between HH Splendor and TVS Centra. Splendor generate same amount of power at 8000 rpm but CR i.e. compression ratio of Centra is 1.433 is more than Splendor's 1.388 or say 3.25% more at less 500 rpm. Its true that somewhat ''High Top Speed'' and ''Rapid Accelaration'' part is compramises due to this, but we just cannot forget that this bike is build for economy and money saving and not for racings. Naturally due to more ELF of Centra, engine will last at least 3.25% more, and it is also a good achievement by TVS Team. Lot of new enhancements are done in building TVS Centra. To reduce the friction, Cam and Followers are given on ball bearings. It reduced the fraction at very high level because rolling friction is just 1/10th of sliding friction. The Timing chain is Teflon coated in Centra which also reducing the friction. Piston is also anti friction coated from outer surface, in addition to this, piston rings are pretty thin (Just 0.8mm) which minimizes the contact area resulting less friction. Less friction means more average and more fuel economy. Further fuel economy is achieved using latest technology i.e. VTI (VERIABLE IGNITIN TIMING) This is a microprocessor which senses the engine requirement and varies the ignition timing to fire at the idle moment which makes total fuel burn for any ride conditions. New fuel supplying system in Centra is saving the fuel waste while vehicle is idle e.g. engine is on but vehicle is idle like waiting for signal in city traffic. In normal bikes when throttle is zero, engine keeps sucking fuel which is a fuel loss, while in Centra, this new system bypasses the carburetor and allows only air flow through air cleaner assy. This is saving fuel as quantity of fuel sucked into the cylinder is reduced. Lastly the suspensions of Centra is very nice and gives you the most comfortable ride at all road conditions. The Rectangular Swing Arm Chassis gives stable ride all the day. UPDATE AS ON 28/02/2006 Vehicle has already completed 14500 Kms in 10 months. All five free servies are also done at TVS Dealer. Few observations which I think I must share with the concerned for better results. 1) Avarage is slightly falls to 68-72 kmpl. 2) At 5th service TVS Dealer changed Block-Piston Assy. Reason told by him is that TVS has made lot of R & D to make Centra More Better and hence they are changing this kit for every Centra (Initial Model). Thus every Centra Holder is suggested that they should contact Authorised TVS Dealer so that they also can get these benefits. 3) Myself is 6.125 Fts of hight and weight is 88 Kgs, considering this scenario, we must say Centra is offering nice avarage.
