Just bought a new TVS Centra for 43.7K - On Road Price. Have drove 500 kms in 20 days and have found this piece of machine mind boggling. I was looking for such a man made machine. My single most point was mileage while deciding a and this bike has given much more than I wanted. I am proud of TVS's new introduction to the 100cc segment.
Some good things I observed were:
1) Fantastic Pick Up - I could not imagine that a bike designed basically for pure mileage could give such a tremendous pick up. It is so quick at the signals while taking off that I need to reduce the throttle to the minimum possible.
2) Good Riding Comfort - This bike is simply great to ride on. I just wait to get on to it. It is simply great. The broad seats are very comfortable and dynamic.
3) Good Handling - The Bike feels good on turns and pot holes.
4) Predictable Mileage - The Bike gave me a minimum of 75 kmpl as average even before the first servicing. I am expecting at least 80 o 85 after that. I used to ride the Splendor before this for more than 7 years and it never gave me such a mileage in its lifetime. In fact it started on with a pathetic 33kmpl and then eventually stabilised in the 60 kmpl range.
As of now I have not stressed my Centra much, since I am still under the initial limit (1000 kms). I need wait till the Engine gets completely tuned. Eagerly waiting to take the bike beyond its limits to test its performance at more harsh and tougher conditions
Some Problems - I faced problems mainly while starting the bike in the early morning. It also used to stop frequently since the idling was not perfect. Once the engine was warm, then it was fine. I yet need to give the bike for the first month's free servicing.
If you are looking for Power Alone then you are the wrong person. This bike is a combination of Superior Mileage, Riding Comfort and Handling.
On the whole I suggest TVS Centra to be better than even TVS Victor, Hero Honda Splendor and Bajaj Caliber when Mileage, Comfort and Handling is compared. Its a Big Value for the money paid.
