When I thought of purchasing a two wheeler, first name I got from my friends and colleagues was Bajaj Pulsar. I really gave serious thought on owning a pulsar, but as I got deeper into the options available, I made the choice for TVS Apache RTR. One of the reason for the choice; it was distict. I was really fed up of seeing Pulsar as every other bike on the road is a Pulsar. And so I settled on TVS APACHE RTR160 as a worthy alternative to the tried & tested Pulsar and I am glad to note that I made a good choice.

Well regarding performance of the bike, the bike comes with 160 cc engine which gives it an edge over its competitor in the segment (150-160cc). In terms of power, the engine is packed with 15.2 bhp which giving it fairly impressive pick up. Handling of the bike is little tough initially as I faced little gear shifting problem before first service. But with time the handling has improved to such an extent that I really enjoy taking sharp turns. The engine however gives some vibration at higher rpm which in a way is good as it gives a feeling of cruiser bike.

Maintenance of the bike is easy and hassle free. One feature that I like is the scheduler in the electronic display which prompts when the bike is due for periodic maintenance.

However, a major flaw with the bike is, its prone to an occasional starting trouble. Possibily it is due to a design problem with the petrol tank -- when it goes over a speed breaker, and if you are running low on petrol, chances are that you will be required to press ignition button at least once.

And when the petrol level is really low then bike becomes highly unreliable. Adding to troubles the electronic display for petrol level in tank never gives consistent level and is not always helpful in gauging how much fuel is left.

When it comes to styling, RTR has got lot to offer. Undoubtedly one of the best looking bikes on the market, what I found impressive about its styling were the clip-on aluminum handlebars, engine fairing, racing stripes on the tank and a neat cowl. The RTR comes with electronic display which includes odometer, tripmeters, Hi speed meter(which records highest speed achieved by the bike), digital clock, fuel level indicator (doesnt work) and one analog meter showing engine rpm.

Bike is priced at Rs 68000 with Taxes(Bangalore) and is comparable to its competitiors in 150cc -160cc segment.

RTR 160 is basically meant for those for whom Power and Style take precedence over slight drop in mileage. Despite some of the flaws I have mentioned RTR stays true to its word to large extent and offers good value for money.
