Perfect combination of quality and affordability – this is how most consumers know TCL teles as. This decent piece of electronics came about due to a MoU between China’s TCL and France’s Thomson, which created the world’s largest television manufacturer! Understandably then, we have a product that is rich in quality and design and cheap to manufacture (and sell)!

Well I, for one, didn’t know the history behind my tele when I bought it, in fact, it was th extreme affordability that prompted me to swipe my ever-eager credit card onto the even-more-eager salesman’s machine! J But am happy to say that my decision that arose out of my tightfisted has not let me down.. yet!

My affair with my TCL 21” tele began in the fall of last year, and it was (and still is) the best my stringent budget could afford me! It was classy, cool, spoke of its ‘ooh-lala’ French oomph! J The picture quality was decent and the sound was okay, which the salesman said was “a-single-bedroom-would-tolerate!” kind of a sound!

Well he was right! Am sure that TCL did away with the puny speakers that came with my model with new 700W (PMPO) speakers in the later models, but as far as my TV is concerned, it’s the sound reproduction that stops me from calling it a great tele!!

Then comes this bit about the picture quality (on which I can say much since I have a DTH, which gives out great picture and sound). I would say that it even compares with a Wega or a Trinoton (give and take a little!). It is only with a decent DVD player or with DTH do you really see the difference, and since most Indian households rely on cable, it hardly makes any sense going in for the high-end makes. (If you are still having age-old-cable, then you probable wont even know what am talking about!!) J The only complaint I had was that my picture was a wee-bit cross. You know what am talking about, you might have noticed that the bottom ‘Flash News’ lines on those news channels are a bit off axis! I checked with my salesguy, but his only remark was that I had jolted it too much during my installation maybe maybe not.. but since I noticed this flaw in almost all the sets that I saw at the showroom, I decided to ‘forgive and forget’ J

So, heres the summary!! Decent and inexpensive. Just don’t go about expecting a crisp clear image which only a HD tv can give you!! I would suggest this tele makes for great secondary viewing. You know what I mean.. a cheap personal tv that you want to watch movies that you just cant watch with your family? J And if someone raps about his tele having a ‘better-this’ or a ‘better-that’ just tell him how much you paid for your sweet personal ‘idiot-box’!!
