Before I start writing the review, I would like you to know that I am a Alumnus of SCMHRD. But still I would like to be less biased towards, and give you a insiders view of the institute.Disclaimer :- These are my personal views.

Lets start with listing out few things which are imp when we select any B-School we want to study at:-

  1. Academics.

  2. Faculty.

  3. Quality of Peers ( Batch mates).

  4. Infrastructure.

  5. Placements ( Of course)

  6. Extracurricular Programs

  7. Alumni Network.

(I might have missed something that might be imp to you. Please comment, or drop me a mail at vaibhavaga1@gmail.com, so that I can update it here.)

Lets take these one by and one and see how SCMHRD stands in each of these:-

  1. Academics (4.5 / 5):-  Once u join in, u will realize that u r at one of the worst places as far as hectic schedule if concerned. Ur day will start with 5 AM in morning and if it ends by 2-3 AM next day, then u should be thankful to god.

Every semester ( yes SCMHRD does not have a Trimester, atleast till I passed out), you will have to study and pass anything between 18-22 subjects.

A lot of focus will be there on latest trends like Six Sigma, PMI, APICS, and other certifications.

Overall , very very Crude but effective way of learning.

  1. Faculty ( 3 / 5 ):-It is difficult for me for me to rate the overall faculty, I would like to do it Spec wise.

  2. HR ( 4 / 5 )- There is some good full time faculty and some awesome Part time faculty.

  3. Marketing ( 4.5 / 5 ) - There might not be any full time faculty which I would rate very high , but the visiting faculty is perhaps "The Best" available. To name a few Mr Prantosh Banerjee. , Mr GD Apte....(I cannot put Etc...after taking name of these ppl).

  4. Finance ( 2.5 / 5) - This is one area where SCMHRD has to go a long way. Let it be acads, let it be Faculty, let it be Placements, SCMHRD is struggling.

  5. Operations and SCM ( 4.5 / 5 ) -  Some very good faculty is there ( again visiting) like Dr. Neil Chinmulgund, Mr Shivram Apte ( The god of Excel Modeling ), Mr. L. C. Jhamb, Mr. Abhijit Nag, Mr. Girish Phatak.

  6. IT and Systems (3.5 / 5 ):- Though there are hardly any takers of IT and Systems at the campus. One prof I would never forget all my life was from IT filed only, Mr. Umeed Kothavala. Otherwise there is nothing much as I would know to talk about in IT.

  7. Peers ( Batchmates) (4.5 /5 ):-Being part of Top B-Schools group of the country, SCMHRD attracts some of the best talent of India. Infact SCMHRD is famous for giving this profile based calls for GD and PI, so if someone is little low on SNAP score but has background of say CA, CFA, IITs, SRCC, or REC etc... there is a fair amount of chance that he/she might get a call.

4. Infrastructure ( 4 / 5 ):-  Campus ( 5 / 5 ) :  It's a fairly small campus ( if compared with IIMs, NITIE), but it's a total green campus in the quite environment of the IT Part of Pune in Hinjawadi. No bikes are allowed on the campus. Its quite scenic to stand in the campus and loot at the mountains and sunset behind. Infact the campus is so beautiful that many directors use them in their movies ( to name few are, Aapharan, Halla Bol etc…) The campus contains the acad block, a canteen, staff Quarters, Hostels, Audi, Swimming  pool, a general store, beauty parlor ( for girls), 2 laundry shops, a PCO, a Juice stall, a Xerox Shop, and few other utilities ( which I could have missed).

Library ( 4 / 5 ):-   It's a well equipped library, No complaints about it.

Hostels ( 4 / 5 ) :-  Hostels are excellent, with toilet and bathroom attached in every room. The only reason I am giving it 4/5 and not 5/5 is the fact that they are 3 seaters not single seaters.

Classrooms ( 2.5 / 5 ) : Classrooms are a bit disappointment. Let go away the dreams of those AC classrooms that u have seen in the pictures of most of the good B-Schools. Here u will get simple classrooms like what u have in any government schools + a LCD player + whiteboard ( instead of blackboard) and a PA system.

5. Placements ( 4 / 5 ):-  The details of placements are mentioned on the website. The placement records were good. The avg salaries quoted on the website are not much inflated, so u can more or less believe on them.

Its not only about the companies visiting the campus, but also about the type of profile offered by them. SCMHRD ranks quite high with some of the best corporate houses of the country and many multinational companies. The profile any SCMHRDidn gets is equal to anybody from IIMs. I don't mean to say that the placements are anyway near to that of IIMs, but the profile offered by some of the  companies are really good.

If u r looking to get speclized in HR, Marketing or Operations, u can look for SCMHRD. I really would not suggest SCMHRD for Finance. ( But again these are my personal views ).

6. Extracurricular Activities ( 4/5 ):-  SCMHRD is one college which lays a lot of emphasis on these activities.

SCMHRD is famous for its course of Vipassana, AOL, and Vedanta….to increase the SQ of its students.

Apart from these there are a lot of clubs which are responsible of a lot of events like Corporate Six Sigma Award Function, Banking Conclave,  Marketing Conclave , HR Hot Issue Seminar etc…

NEEV the annual fest of SCMHRD is one of the best in the country, the details of which is present on youtube and institute’s website.

SCMHRD has this history of winning a lot of awards in any corporate functions and fests.

  1. Alumni Network ( 3.5/4):- Since SCMHRD is not a very old institute, hence it does not have as strong alumni network as maybe a IIM-A, XLRI or even SIBM would have, but given all the facts, some of the SCMHRD alumnus have reached very high in the corporate world. The details of which are given in the website.

Reasons one should join SCMHRD

1.       Academic rigueur

2.       One of the Best B-Schools of India

3.       Neat and Clean campus

4.       Great Placement records.

5.       Overall Development

Reasons one should avoid SCMHRD:-

1.       Part of Symbi fraternity, no differential Branding

2.       One man Army college ( The Director is the God)

3.       U have a offer from either IIMs, XLRI, ISB,  FMS, SPJain, JBIMS, NITIE, IIFT- Delhi, SjM-SOM.

Overall a good college, Deserves to be part of ur list.
