Why did they name this movie Swordfish? The name has no relevance in this flick except for a passing reference.But this movie has a lot of attitude and chutzpah.John Travolta is really good as Gabriel who has the amazing knack to survive in the cut throat world of high tech terrorism.
When world famous hacker Stanley Jobson (Hugh Jackman is approached by Ginger(Halle Berry)to meet Gabriel,little does he know the wild ride awaiting him.Anyway he accepts the offer of 10 million dollars because he needs the cash to take his daughter away from his ex-wife.Now Gabriel wants him to break into the funds of the American Government which are kept aside for emergencies.It is really not known what exactly is the purpose of Gabriel to indulge in all that killing except that he says that he is a covert operative and he is out to save America from the clutches of terrorism.But after all he is a money grabber.In the end all that matters is money.
You are treated to mind blowing scenes of carnage that are visually very appealing.Check out the sequence in the beginning where there is a 360 degree shot of a bomb exploding and the damage that occurs.Then there is the by now famous shot of the bus dangling from an helicopter over the city of Los Angeles.Of all the star cast only John Travolta stands out as the glib talking Gabriel.Next to him comes Hugh Jackman who looks good and tries to act.Anyway in movies of this variety you do not need stellar acting capabilities.
See this movie if you want to kill time and have nothing much to do.It delivers all the goods and gives you a visual treat.The soundtrack is also peppy.All in all a good time pass flick.Do not look for substance and you will not be disappointed.
