Nowhere skeptical about any brand! I thought a watch is just a watch, it tells you your good or bad time! With good you rejoice, the bad finds you in remorse! Other than this a watch held no importance for me! Sometime in the rush to reach office I even wear to forget one, but the mobile phone and the clock in the car dutifully replace my absentee watch! In fact the days I don’t wear one! I am happy to find it’s already 5’O clock and the day was fabulous without any untoward incident well I really thank my angels for a gifting me a good and safe day! Since living has become so uncertain!
Few days ago my belief was same- “A watch is a watch and just a watch!” But that was before I lay my hands on a Swatch! A look at them forces your eyes to look again at them! Adoring the beauty and precision they ooze!
Exclusive indeed they are! They force you to spend some extra seconds when you stare at them to check your time! Good or bad?
Now this Swatch of mine has been inspired by a TV show right now in air- Biggest Loser Jeetega! Well a credit card always makes you lose those extra cash from your bank and pockets. And since you don’t feel the pain of paying them back- they give you a lollypop- same as my mother used to give me one in childhood- when I used to weep and cry- Bonus Point! The “onus” to pay is replaced by some attractive “bonus” points. Hence Bonus Points earned got me a good discount- around Rs. 5000/- off on the Swatch I wish to choose!
A Swiss Watch is always expensive and a thing of luxury, the Swatch of course begs to differ- the range starts from as low as 5000/- rupaiyaa! I some time think had I picked the one costing 5000/- I would have got it for free! But the Credit Card people are “big jaalsaaz”- they lay their net with choice of watches which cost more than 10, 000 rokda!
A quick take to Swatch History says- The 70’s saw a tough time for Swiss Watches as Cheap Japanese made flooded the market. A Swiss became extremely expensive compared to them. A change of strategy to curb the competition saw Swatch coming with limited components in a plastic body which offered the world an affordable version of Swiss Watch! Till recent times a Swatch range included more of plastic body only to add- SwatchIrony(the metal body watch for executives having passion for gym! And working out on work with metal on their wrist- “dole shole”) and SwatchSkin (the thinnest, like skim milk, chronograph- but the company never took out the fat- price)Swatch SnowPass (for those who love to lose their watches in thick, fresh snow of Manali and Shimla) now I don’t expect you to be an snow surfer knowing your humble profile on MS for which this watch is made and SwatchBeat( for those who hate to carry a laptop and would prefer one tied on their wrist- may be a waterproof laptop! Mine is called Irony and the irony it is indeed! Comprising of one big and three small dials- a chronograph- I still couldn’t find other than the Time, Date, Second, Minute, what is the use of one extra small dial! May be with time I will discover, if ofcourse I dare to fiddle with the watch anymore! Because I believe- “jo chaltaa hai usse chalne do” the more we try todiscover, will only let the watch come out of its cover (body) and scream-“le dekh le bund ho gayee main! Ab khoosh?”
So not to enrage it more I am happy for the positive change in my belief that a Watch can be sometimes more than being just aWatch!
It can be a thing of beauty! A pride to own! A technological marvel! A struggle to survive competition! And an evident claim by Swiss Watch Manufacturing Industry that why Swiss made is so distinctly the best!
