After Lagaan,everyone expects a Cinematic Gem from ASHUTOSH GOWARIKER and when the master Director joins hands with Shahrukh Khan the Expectations are soar Skywards.Like Lagaan,the Master Selects an Insipring Subject.Ashutosh Gowariker's selection of Subject is Perfect,If well made the movie the Problems of Rural land,the Emotions and Desh-bhakti scenes can touch the chords of heart,bUT the treatment is like a Documentary movie rather than Commercial Movie.Though the Director thoughts are very good,of Presenting the rural Problems but the Director hasnt Tackled the Subject well.Ashutosh Gowariker should be Given credit for Creating a movie like Swades In 21st century but To be honest Swades is High on hype,and low on Substance.
Swades says the story of Mohan Bhargava(king khan) who is a young scientist who works for NASA,but he comes to INDIA for quest to find his childhood nanny.Then Mohan finds his nanny, Kaveriamma [Kishori Ballal] and he also find Gita[Gayatri Joshi] and then he starts Changing his Motherland Charanpur.He Gives Electricity to the Villagers and tries to Develop it by all means.The story and plot is good,but it is Ruined by Director's Treatment.And moreover the Story moves at Snail's Pace,and after sometime it becomes tough to Digest the movie.Ashutosh Gowariker deserves marks for Handling the subject with Care and he also Creates the right ambience and has also extracted Brilliant performances from one and all, but he seems to have miscalculated that the viewer of today would comprehend the narrative easily.
Shahrukh Khan comes up with A Brilliant Performance, To state that he is excellent would be an understatement. His performance is bound to win admiration from cinegoers, besides fetching awards.We usually say that the Actor is limited to Romantic movies,but in this role he adds Soul to this role.His Simple look is Lovable.Gayatri Joshi is another actor to watch,she talented actress knows how to absorb a meaty role like this.Makrand Deshpande again proves that he is the best talent India has produced,of late.
The Music of the Swades is Tuneful,though there is no requirement of songs in this type of movie,but ''Yuhi chala'' and ''Yeh tara''sound good to ears,but other songs are OKAY.The Screenplay by Ashutosh Gowariker is Superb,He Shows the problems of Rurals very well,It wont be wrong to say that Screenplay is like the life-line of Swades.But sadly, the master maker didnt put much interesting moments,in other way,the screenplay is good but it is not Entertaining.
The Background Music is very good,it also suits the mood of the Movie.The Dialogues are Excellent,but they tend to bore after certain time.The Cinematography is Mind-blowing,the rural scenes,the dusty brown shaded Scenes are of high quality,the Costumes Deserves Special Mention.
On the whole,Swades is a good footage ,but sadly the movie is made for Classes rather than MASSES.It will extract compliments from Trade-pandits,but it is too low on Entertainment.It also misses the Intesting moments that can help Viewers to hold their Seats.Though the Maker may get admiration for making it.And As far as viewers are concerned,it is not everybody's cup of tea,There are very less People like me who Believe in this type of Cinema.
