Bajaj is among the most popular and among the oldest manufacturers in the Indian two-wheeler space. Although its domestic market share has shrunk in the recent past, the Chakan based two-wheeler manufacturer is the numero uno in the export market. It is currently the sixth largest manufacturer for two-wheelers globally. It kick-started its operations by manufacturing scooters under license from Vespa. The most popular scooter offering for Bajaj was the Chetak scooter which at one point of time had a waiting period of close to a year and lasted in production for an incredible 34 years! In the 1990’s Bajaj started focusing its attention on motorcycles as the market trend was shifting. It sprung a surprise when it announced that it will be withdrawing from the scooter market given the fact that it was scooters that had established the brand. The Saffire was the last scooter product from Bajaj. The Bajaj Boxer and Discover were its commuter brand in the country and they garnered good sales figure. It also rode in the Bajaj Avenger, which still remains the most affordable cruiser on sale in India. But it was the Bajaj Pulsar brand that cemented its position as a performance bikemaker in the Indian market. The popularity of the Bajaj motorcycles can be credited to its value for money proposition without compromising on features, power and technology. The Pulsar range has grown at a steady pace with many iterations and a 400cc Pulsar version in a power cruiser form is expected to debut by August, 2016 in the form of the Bajaj Pulsar CS400.
