I took a deep breath as the last song, a lyric-free composition was plunked out on the piano. I understand she plays the piano and it's not too shabby. Her lilting voice is enough alone, one of those people who needs not music to enhance vocal talent. It is in my opinion that a singer with a unique and beautiful voice (Such as Sarah's) who also composes their own music, deserves respect, whether you care for the style or not.

I have only recently taken an interest in Sarah Mclachlan's music, buying her album ''Surfacing'' on a whim. I was grateful for the choice I made. She sings what I like to call ''Mood Music''. I have different moods, and I have different albums for different moods. When I want to brood, or contemplate life, or enjoy solitude, I delve into ''Surfacing''

One of perhaps, her most well known songs is on this cd, entitled ''Angel'', a song of hope and peace...''In the arms of the angels, I will rest.'' Sarah knows there's a higher power, maybe she's not too certain, but she's searching.

In another song ''Adia'', she declares her belief that people are still good. That's how I interpret it, anyways. Her songs follow a basic pattern of love and hope. No one can deny her talent and fresh perspective.

I'm aware that her style is not for everyone...her style is folk mixed with a little bit of pop. What I really mean to say is that I recommend her album, ''Surfacing'' as a quiet, perceptive view on life and love.
