I am not much familiar with this franchise actually. An honestly I believed that a superhero who is almost faultless and indestructible has to be boring. Well... not if you go the IMAX way.
Only 20min of the entire thing has been converted to 3D. So don't expect full blown hardcore 3D experience like Space Station.Nonetheless, Iets see what there was in store for me -
I would not be revealing the plot. Its not really integral to the movie but still...
Cast Performance
Superman is a hunk. The guy doing the role (can't recall the name) is absolutely stunning to be honest. And he does really well to handle a role that is much larger than life. The romantic scenes are done very well too and they do have the supermantwist - love is in the air - in the air - literally. Kevin Spacey (like him since American Beauty) is brilliant. He plays Lex Luger - a maniac out to rule the world (I know u guessed that). The twist in his case comes in the form of a little humour. And he does it all well. As with all superheroes, the story here is not faultless either but simply the execution of this outrageous heroism will take you through without much qualms.
Visual Candy and the Third Dimension
Its good. Most of the scenes in the movie involve huge and often outrageous situations. But its all done to the effect that it feels believable. Atleast it did at IMAX. Some scenes are really breath-taking and involve typically high-speed, on-the-edge kinda action. If you are going just for the sake of the superhero things, you will not be disappointed. And if I may stick my neck out, I can say that in this regard, Spidey is beaten now. As I said only 20min 3D action is there (mainly in those action-hero sequences) and what is there is not perfect (rough edges remain). But still, the 3D action is great to behold.
Audio effects
The soundtrack is strictly retro and very in-confirmation with the previous releases. That is not a good thing. Not for me atleast as it quite often gets on your nerves with the shrill and high notes. Also the casting at the beginning is a real pain to get through. As retro and old-fashioned as it can get. Other than that, the sound effects are great and flawless.
The deal
Don't expect full blown drama-cum-action saga. This is strictly make-believe realm. If you are comfortable with that, its fun. Take your kids and there are some amazing sequences to be enjoyed. I recommend IMAX (each ticket at 260 bucks) - simply because the movie deserves all the added frills.
