Dear sir,

I fully agree with the comments of Mr.Chacko on Sunrise Hospital Kakkanad. I lost my pet daughter after a laproscopy surgery. She was married only 6 years ago and aged 34 years and she was well qualified in business management and was running her own Placement services successfully in Kochin. As the surgeon was reportedly a record holder in Guinness Book of world records in having performed over 2000 laprascopy surgeries, my daughter was confident of 100% success at his hands and her confidence was unfortunately misplaced and on 5th day of her stay in the hospital she died due to gross negligence on the part of the attending doctors and para-medics of the hospital.

The incident is as follows. My daughterwith her husband went to the hospital to meet the famous surgeon on 24/05/2010 and discussed the issue and the surgeon assured her 100% success and informed her that the surgery would take about half an hour to one hour. Thereafter on 25th and 26th some medical tests were conducted and she was found fit for the surgery and was admitted in the hospital fixing the date of surgery on 28th May 2010. The key-hole surgery took almost 4 hours belying the assurance given by the surgeon to my daughter at the time of consultation. What happened during the 4 long hours on the operating table, my daughter and the family members did not know.Only the surgeon and other medical staff and para-medics who were present during the surgery must be knowing the reasons which they will never divulge to others as the Managing Director of the hospital himself was the operating surgeon. Thereafter my daughter complained of chest congestion, breathlessness, pain on the left side of the body and left leg, general weakness, difficulty in taking food etc. These complaints were told to the para-medical staff and the duty doctors who coolly attributed the symptoms to the normal post operative features. She was given pain killers like voveran etc. This type of treatment went on for the next 2 days without any relief to my daughter. On 31st My 2010 my daughter developed severe breathlessness and severe pain in the left leg and she wanted her mother who was near her to massage the leg which did not yield proper relief. All the time the para-medics and the attending duty doctors were being told of the symptoms and they all said that it was due to poor air conditioner, lack of movement, lack of food intake etc without taking any exploratory investigations to understand the reasons for the symptoms. At around 7.00 pm on 31st May 2010 my daughter's condition worsened and the available junior doctors had a discussion and they decided to have x'ray of her chest etc.Still they did not arrive at possible causes of the symptoms. As time progressed my daughter's condition became precarious and she was shifted to ICCU and later put on ventilator. By 00.35 AM on 01.06.2010 she died leaving me and my wife in untold miseries.

According to American Medical authorities, British Medical authorities and our own Indian specialists have said that the symptoms expressed by my daughter during her post operative period was due to development of DVT(Deep Vein Thrombosis) leading to PE(Pulmonary Embolism) The surgeon who operated on my daughter should have taken precautions against these before the surgery and after the surgery. He should have administered Haparin and Warfarin medications and the left leg, heart and lungs should have been constantly scanned for clots. The left leg should have been covered with compressin bandage or tight fitting stockings. All these things were not done in the case of my daughter resulting in her untimely death. The surgeon visited his patient only once in 5 days after the operation and that too on 31.05.2010 a mere 4 hours before her death and assured my wife who was there to go to her room and sleep well, but about 4 hours later my daughter breathed her last and my wife and I were unable to contain our grief. The surgeon was no-where to be seen and I was told that he flew off to Dubai the very next day morning where he has a similar hospital. I wonder whether the surgeon would have been so callous and negligent if his own daughter or son was in the same condition as was my pet daughter? In the end the hospital charged a bill of Rs.1, 40, 000/- which was not at all an issue here. My wife and I lost our dearest pet daughter in her prime age and her husband was itotally broken  as he was extremely fond of her and he loved her very much. For days together he was like a rudderless boat and time and our affection brought him back to normalcy.

This is my sad story and we are yet to come out of our grief and I do not know how long it will take us to tide over the loss. We only want that such surgeons who play with the lives of such youngsters should not be allowed to practice the profession. They should be barred from practicing the profession so that other parents like us do not lose their daughters untimely. In future I will never go anywhere near this hospital nor I will ever recommend this hospital to any one.

God bless our daughter's soul.
