I'd been hearing of this place for quite a while and it was an impulsive decision one Saturday evening to check out Sunny's. Thankfully one of us knew the place. Otherwise its not really located at a very convenient place. Parking is grossly inadequate and you might just have to settle for a lucky corner on the road.
We were fortunate to have found a table in less than 20 minutes (without having a prior reservation). The gentleman at the welcome desk was delightfully courteous and suggested that we wait at the bar on the mezzanine floor till the table was announced.
The ambiance was not bad. There was no decor as such, to speak of. The high ceiling and all glass facade, lent a spacious look to the place. One the contrary, the tables were quite closely packed. But for the loud music, one could've easily delved into the neighbors conversations. Both the food and bar menu was elaborate and creative. One could almost invariably find what one fancied. The menu had a good selection of imported wines and liquors as well. Food menu was thoughtful as well. All the dishes were described to save the trouble of having to depend on the order taker.
Service was nothing to speak of. It was evident from the quality of service and the communication skills of the service staff that they were inadequately trained. Typically in a restaurant as expensive as Sunny's, one would have expected a trifle more exclusive service. All the service staff were too busy with themselves or other guests. On more than one occasion during the dinner, I just stopped short of hurling some crockery or cutlery to attract someone's attention. Food no doubt was sumptuous. The dishes were continental in the literal sense and were presented well too.
Portion sizes were adequate. (Pizza's are available only in the 12" size though and should not be ordered unless 2 persons intend to share) Price was exorbitant. More so because of the pathetic service. But the fact that the place was still in good business tells me that no-one really cares too much about the service and food is all that draws them to the place.
