I recently purchased a Honda Civic from Sundaram Motors in Chennai. They are part of one of the largest industrial houses in Chennai and a big player in the automobile market, they are also dealers for Chevrolet cars.
One of the practises that the dealer indulges in still is something that most of us consumers have forgotten, they insist on paying a service charge in case of a transaction on a credit card. I was shocked when I heard this for the first time as I thought this was something that does not exist anymore, however M/S Sundaram insist on service charge and if not, nothing moves.
Some of you might feel that I am making a big hue and cry about nothing, however, that is not the case. the service charge is something that the bank charges the merchant and is absorbed by the merchant in order to ensure that the customer benefits by paying in plastic. however this practice of passing on the charge to the consumer by saying that this is charged by the bank and hence needs to be paid is something I could not digest.
I have written to the dealer about this and I am yet to hear from their end on this still. I have mentioned it in the post sales feedback calls I have received, but there seems to be no progress at all.
Wanted to share my views on this forum so that others could also take my stand while dealing with M/S Sundaram or others who indulge in this kind of unfair practice.
