In this fast changing scenario, when more and more innovative themes are being attempted by film-makers in Bollywood, you still come across films that are stuck up in the 1980s' jaded formulae. So, what's new in Sun Zara? Nothing! It's old wine packaged in a new bottle. Not only is the film low on content, it's even low on entertainment!

A boy comes to the big city to make his mark in the world of pop music. A girl unknowingly falls in love with his voice. He too falls in love with her but refrains from telling her. She loses her eyesight. He helps her become famous instead of himself. He sells her kidney to help her regain her eyesight. Before the two live happily ever after, he is branded a terrorist and sent to jail.

Mismash of several Bollywood potboilers Sun Zara is as 'fresh' in its concept as last month's newspaper headlines. The problem with film is that the viewer can actually predict what's going to happen next.To look for anything novel in the film is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. From the word 'go', director relies on the same old recipe to convey what he intends to and two, the treatment is absolutely old-fashioned .

Let's begin with the loopholes in the script. The first half of the film is bland, with no exciting moments in the narrative. The story moves on the tried-and-tested path and relies too heavily on sequences that have been witnessed time and again. Actually, the love story in the first half lacks passion, mainly because of the oft-repeated situations. To be honest, there is hardly any sequence in the first half that leaves an indelible impression on the viewer.

One expects the story to gain momentum in the second half, when our hero is arrested . But in this half as well, the screenplay abounds in clich moments and film looks half-baked.

The narrative does gather momentum when Sameer re-emerges on the scene. But barring a scene or two, the impact in the latter reels is missing. The climax also leaves much to be desired. The dramatic scenes are just about okay and the emotional ones fall flat .

Sameer looks disinterested in most parts, carrying off his role mechanically. Anjana is functional. She needs to work on her acting skills. Mithun hams big time with his comic triming.

Skip the film and preserve your sanity!
