Sultan – Hero of Masses

Salman has been criticized a lot lately for the senseless films he's churning out. But that isn't stopping him from doing such films as we all know. But Sultan is definitely a decent film, and could be one of Salman’s better films in many years.

When I watched the film in the second show, it wasn’t just Salman fans that thronged the theater. There were also families, along with grand parents and kids who had come to watch the Salman film. And everyone especially the kids enjoyed a lot. Salman always had the pull on the family audiences, and it works with Sultan as well.

Sultan is a classic underdog tale about a wrestler’s journey, looking for a comeback by defeating all odds staked up against him. It’s a wrestling drama film with a good dose of romance, music and emotional quotient. Aakash Oberoi( Amit Sadh) , a young entrepreneur, is on the verge of a breakdown because his idea of bringing Mixed Martial Arts contests to India isn’t successfully working out. His father advises him to bring in a local wrestler Sultan Ali Khan. Sultan( Salman Khan) , a middle aged former wrestler, has seen the highs and lows of life.

The movie deals with the story of heart, passion and grit in Sultan Ali Khan. It is about how Sultan brings to life his story of love and determination against all odds. Salman Khan, a name that Bollywood will remember forever. You may love him or hate him, but you can’t ignore him. He is a superstar on all fronts, and his fans adore him. Despite good or bad movies he had, all the controversies he went through, he is still amongst the top actors in Bollywood. I can honestly say that he is definitely India’s Most Powerful Star. He is the hero of the masses. Anushka Sharm as Aarfa was marvelous in dialogue delivery, subtle expressions, happiness, pain & insecurity. All the supporting characters have delivered brilliant performances, Sultan has an interesting story that offers a brilliant message to the public.

Aditya Chopra has created an arresting screenplay and he has embedded some commercial ingredients that make the film a good entertainer. The director Ali Abbas Zafar has a good grip on the narration, which keeps viewers engaged throughout the movie. Ali Abbas Zafar the director of “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan” and “Gunday” has religiously tried to break Salman free from his ‘Dabangg’ Khan image and make him more humane.

The music by Vishal-Shekhar is power packed with Papon’s soulful rendition of “Bulleya”, the peppy number “Baby ko Bass pasand hai”, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s “Jag Ghumeya” and the ever inspiring Sultan theme song.Overall Sultan is an entertaining movie. It’s hilarious in some parts and still, its emotional content is too strong. Excellent work on direction, writing, screenplay and editing, it never bores you. Enjoy the power of superstar Slaman Khan on Big Screen.
