I just came across the ‘Review Needed’ section at MouthShut and spotted a needed review for Sukhwinder Singh. Well I was surprised at the fact that even after giving multiple hits in Bollywood there has been no single review for Sukhwinder Singh.
So here I am with my review on Sukhwinder Singh.
Sukhwinder Singh is now a well known face in the Bollywood film industry. But the fact remains that Sukhwinder Singh first made his debut as a music arranger in Lakshmikant Pyarelal’s troupe. His first Bollywood debut song was actually, “Aa Jaa Sanam”, which had music by Lakshmikant Pyarelal. But unfortunately the song went totally unnoticed and so was the talented singer.
But things changed with ‘Dil Se’. Music maestro A.R.Rahman who is known to experiment with fresh voices needed a singer to sing “Chaiyya Chaiyya” and he chose Sukhwinder for the song. The rest is History. Chaiyya Chaiyya topped all the music charts and was a runaway hit and it also fetched Sukhwinder the Filmfare award that year. Since then Sukhwinder has been an integral part of Rahman’s troupe.
Sukhwinder attributes his success to his mentor, A.R.Rahman and rightly so. Since Dil Se Sukhwinder’s work has been appreciated in films like Taal, 1947-Earth, Thakshak, Biwi No. 1, Daag , The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Lagaan and Pyar Tune Kya Kiya. Apart from these he has also assisted Rahman in various Concerts as part of his World Tour.
Some tracks sung by Sukhwinder that I really find interesting are:
Chaiyya Chaiyya – Dil Se
Rut Aa Gayi Re – 1947-Earth
Ramta Jogi – Taal
Des Mere – The Legend of Bhagat Singh
Kambakht Ishq – Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya
Dholna ( Along with Shubha Mudgal for an album)
