Am just back from a lunch at Sukh Sagar in Jayanagar IV Block. This was my second outing there after it was renovated sometime back. I had always liked this place, in its earlier avatar. The place was cozy and cool. Ideal to take a girl out to. The service was excellent. The waiters were friendly and very very courteous. My favorite here was the Sukh Sagar lunch.
I was in for a shock last week, when I went in with a couple of my friends for lunch. The place now had a first floor, and looked like a up market college canteen. It was VERY crowded (Bangaloreans have become 'food crazy' these days). There was a group of noisy and boisterous women at the table behind us. There was a plethora of waiters and captains and managers, and what not. Someone came and shoved couple of menu cards in front of us.
He did not even make eye contact with us (Ask any Service Industry guy, and he will tell you that this is BASIC - making eye contact with the customer). We waited for someone to bless us by taking our orders. A bored looking Captain came, and took the order. Again, no eye contact. A waiter (same one who had thrust the menu cards) came with water glasses.
One look at the water, and you knew Hygiene had been given the boot here. I had to wait for some more time to ask someone to replace the water. This time, the glasses were bad. Oh my God! This was not the Sukh Sagar that I knew.
Lunch came after 20 min. The waiter put the plates in front of us without even asking who had ordered what (Is this out of fashion, now!!).
Altogether, a bad experience. So, when I went there again today, I did not expect anything better. But, it was really appalling to find that the same thing repeated. The Captains were busy talking to each other. The water was yet again, bad. The food was delayed. Fruit juices that we ordered were not what we got. Getting the bill took 'hajaar' time. Overall, the indifference and apathy of the hotel staff irritated me. However, the food was pretty good. Some consolation, though.
This is not a restaurant I would recommend to someone who is particular about hygiene, someone particular about courtesy, or time.
