This review is mainly about the outlet located on100ft road Koramangala, just a little ahead of St John’s Auditorium (opposite to BDA Complex).
Good things first:
This is a part of the famous Sukh Sagar chain of restaurants serving great Veg cuisine across various locations in Bangalore (and also around the globe Mumbai, Chennai, Dubai etc – as per their portal).
I have eaten in most of their Bangalore outlets (Gandhinagar, Jayanagar & Koramangala) on a number of occasions and have found the food to be very tasty, consistent & above average.They serve South Indian snacks (Idly, vada, dosa, upama etc) all through the day, meals (South & North) during lunch & late evenings along with Chinese & Mexican dishes. They also dish up nice Chaat items during the evenings.
At the Koramangala joint, all South Indian snacks are really good, specially the Rava Idly (my personal favorite) and the dosas. Chat items are passable and the best thing out here (as per my opinion) is the meal :)
South Indian meal is indeed too good, the side dishes are always very tasty and so are the Rasam & the Mangalore Sambar!! North Indian meal is also good, the chana side dish (which is a regular on the menu) is good and so is the dal. With the regular meal, they serve a sweet which is usually a stale one which I feel is the left over from their sweet meat shop.
The Gud-Bud is a must try at this place and so is the Hot Chocolate Fudge.
The restaurant is in two sections, well, actually three. The first small section on the ground floor is a self-serve Darshini types which is usually crowded with College folks, standing out & munching on the dosas.
The main section in the ground floor is a non-ac serviced wing where most the crowd pours in and the one upstairs is the over priced AC Wing.
In the non-AC wing. the price is indeed pretty steep, dosas over Rs30, South Thali at about Rs.45, North Indian meal at over Rs75 & North Indian side dishes hovering over Rs90 (min).
What I hate most about this place:
Having said all good things about this joint, now comes the bummer!! Their customer service sucks big time!! Don’t take me wrong, its not that these guys are in-efficient, they are super efficient and their motto is to – overfeed you very quickly & throw you out as soon as possible!! They take orders even before you are seated, keep checking for repeat orders, allot your table whilst you are still finishing up & shove the bill (up your a**s!! Pls excuse the language bu) even before you wash your hands!!! This happened to me a couple of times and on one occasion, the waiter was hell bent upon picking up my complete order in one shot. I did politely tell him that we would order extra rotis and rice if we need it but he kept saying – “sir, eegle order maadi (order it now itself)”. I complained to the Manager who politely apologized, mumbling some excuse (new waiter saar) but on my next visit, it was almost the same treatment :( That’s when I decided that I would never ever again visit this place!!
On the whole, it’s a nice place serving a little overpriced South & North Indian tasty food and if you can manage to turn a blind eye to their super efficient service, you can definitely visit this place for a tasty meal!
