Scoring well in ISC Science Stream ? The information technology

In order to begin this review, it is important to understand the differences in academics a student faces while he/she moves from the Xth standard to the XIIth standard. The much smaller course in Xth standard helps to score well, while the huge syllabus of ISC in science streams turn out to be a rather nightmare for students. The questions set in the exam are however easier, and are part of a specific pattern which I will discuss later in this review.

The main dispute that arises while studying for competetive exams with ISC. Competetive examinations demand concepts and clarity in understanding. However ISC demands amassing of information. Hence it is really difficult for students to prepare for engg and medical entrances along with ISC. Ofcourse brilliant students can do it, but they do not need reviews like this too.

How to go for it?

The Keyword aspect is the same here that of ICSE (check out my report on ICSE for details). Mathematics in ISC is easy, as questions come from the book examples ( I used books like Saha & Saha or M.L.Aggarwal). However, in Physics and Chemistry ( I dont know about biology as it was not my subject in XIIth), a lot more other things are required. Physics and Chemistry involves lots of graphs which must be remembered.

I remember those days when I had copied all the graphs from my physics book and tried to comprehend it and it indeed helped to get me 95 in Physics. Also, all fundamental and advance formula must be in your fingertips. Remember that problems in ISC involve direct application of formulae. Also remember every small piece of information. It is important.

During my year, there was a chapter called Phase Equillibria in Chemistry which was not included in any other competetive examination syllabus. Please read it carefully (if it is still there in the syllabus). A lot of questions (5 to 10 marks) come from it. Also read the polymers and biochemistry parts as they are gaining importance in the papers every year.

Also remember that test paper practice is important in ISC. For help about test paper practice, please check out my review on ICSE. In ISC, time is the most valuable factor in examination time and it can be managed right only through practice. The council publishes old question papers every year, so get hold of them to understand the pattern. And also, even if you are a good JEE aspirant please keep atleast 1 and half months for ISC , as this exam leaves a mark on you for your whole life.

This review seems to be a bit smaller in size but please donot ignore it for its dimensions. It has some valuable points to be noted. Also finally, best of luck and performance for all your examinations ahead.
